Cristiano Ronaldo said he will "close the mouths" of his critics and that they "do not want to see" his defensive work in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports . Ronaldo's return to Manchester United on Transfer Deadline Day was greeted with fanfare and the six goals of his second spell at Old Trafford have proved pivotal in Europe and the Premier League, providing late winners in both of their Champions League group-stage victories to date. However, United's ropey form has not seen the five-time Ballon d'Or winner immune from criticism. Data graphics have put the 36-year-old at the bottom of the pressing charts for forwards across the Premier League, which coupled with the club's perceived soft underbelly has raised questions about Ronaldo's overall impact. In a wide-ranging interview with Sky Sports ahead of a showdown with Liverpool on Sky Sports Premier League this Sunday, the record international goalscorer hit back at his critics as not wanting to see the positives of his game, and said even as he enters his 20th season as a professional, his winning desire still burns as brightly as ever. After breaking the all-time international goalscoring record, Cristiano Ronaldo says it is not his time to retire from international football yet because he wants to set the target much higher. He said: "I know when the team needs my help defensively. But my role in the club is to win, help the team to win and to score goals - [the defensive side] is part of my job. "The people who don't want to see that is because they don't like me but to be honest I'm 36, I win everything so am I going to be worried about the people who say bad things about me? I sleep good at night. I go to my bed with my conscience very good. Keep going with that because I will still close mouths and win things. "Criticism is always part of the business. I'm not worried about that. And I see it as a good thing to be honest. If they worry about me or they speak about me, it's because they know my potential and value in football still. So it's good. I'll give you an example: if you're in a school and you're the best student, you ask the worst student if he likes the best, they'll say they don't like him. "I think the main word is that I'm still happy and enjoying football. It doesn't matter how many things I won in my career. I win everything but I'm still motivated. I'm in a new chapter of my life, even with my age, and this is why I am here - to try to win and I think Manchester needs to be at this level of winning and thinking to win big things so I'm here to help." 'Huge potential' in United team There had been suggestions that Ronaldo's arrival could inspire United to play a genuine role in this season's title race, but with eight games gone Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side sit five points off the league summit and have not won in three league matches. A defiant Ronaldo said he sees the promise in the squad to bring silverware back to Old Trafford for the first time since 2017, and revealed instead of singing a song for his second United induction, he gave his team-mates a motivational speech about how he wants to use his winning mentality to take them to that level. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says it's hard to compare Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of their meeting at Old Trafford on Sunday. "I said what I felt in that moment: that I'm here to win things," he said. "Manchester United is a sign [of] winning things and I'm not here for holidays. I said to them I see huge potential in this team; very young players, players with potential, and I'm here to win and to help the team to build new stuff. "I didn't sing because I told them that I sang a few years ago! But it was good. The boys, they understand me, it was a good speech and I was happy that night." Everton reaction? 'I just want to win' Another criticism labelled on perhaps football's most scrutinised player came after he stormed down the tunnel at full-time of their 1-1 draw with Everton after the international break, their third domestic game in a row without victory and a result which denied them the chance to go joint-top of the Premier League table with Chelsea. But Ronaldo, who has eight league titles to his name, made no apologies for his reaction and pointed to his winning mentality as motivating his frustration at the result. Leicester ended Manchester United's record unbeaten away Premier League run at the King Power Stadium in their last league match. He said: "I don't like to lose. [It was a] draw? Draw - but for me, to draw against Everton - who have my whole respect - at home is like a loss. Maybe I'm thinking wrong, but this is the way I motivate myself and win stuff during my career and I play for the most important clubs in the world. "So, as I said, criticism will always exist here. I'm not hiding from that and, to be honest, I really don't care because I know football is like that. My reactions are what I feel at that moment. Most of the time when I talk it's very, very positive but sometimes, depending on the game, maybe you say things that you don't agree or whatever but it's me. "Everyone knows me. I've always been like that; I'm not going to change now with my age. I will always give 100 per cent for this club and my reactions is part of what I am. I don't want to hurt anybody. I know there will be eyes on me because of what I am, what I achieve, what I win. "They don't want to give me credit for the good things; they're always going to find the bad things but for me it's not a problem. Life's a constant lesson and I still learn with my mistakes, trying to improve the next game." https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/12441497/cristiano-ronaldo-i-will-close-mouths-of-critics-by-winning-things-at-manchester-united

paulolee: Messi fans and hypocrisy is like bread and butter. Well I don't blame them cos the midget has been a hypocrite all his life. PSG that couldn't win common club Brugge and Leipzig convincingly is what this one is making noise about. PSG has no quality to survive champions league quarter finals, it's just some brainwashed Messi fans that think otherwise. A guy that couldn't help Barca to pass the quarter finals for almost six years is what is giving this ones false hope. Ronaldo isn't a coward like Messi who chose to play for Europe's 7th league after managing to leave his comfort zone 2 Likes |

SyrusdeHansome: Messi fans are so deluded that u wonder if they are actually kidding with the criticism or they are outrightly bitter of Ronaldo's achievements... they were all screaming that he is the assist master, niggar hasn't assisted in 7 games he has played for PSG.... they moved to dribbles , and chances created , messi was just strolling round the pitch game after game with no impact .... instead they focused on Ronaldo, that he is killing man utd by not defending...messi that dont even make attempts at defending, they overlooked his side... they goal shamed Ronaldo that he only scores tap ins and penalties... messi scored a tap in and penalty, they said its a rebound and a penanka ...I never see this kyn hypocrisy in my life...infact they dont hv shame anymore in displaying their stupidity 3 Likes 1 Share |

The reason u see Messi's minions in all Ronaldo's news is fear and insecurity.... they deeply know Ronaldo is the only football player they hv ever seen that achieves 98% of what he sets out to achieve, they know even messi himself cant... the real hatred started when Ronaldo overturned a 4.1 balon dor deficit to 5.5 and also overturned champions league 3.1 deficit to 5.4 lead and then when he first won an international trophy b4 messi , the bitterness started....how dare Ronaldo take a mid class Portugal to victory despite having France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, England to contend with.... the thing shock them... while messi kept on disappointing...instead of them to face messi and encourage him just like Ronaldo fans stood by Ronaldo and encouraged him and not minding Messi's achievements... they started to attack Ronaldo, saying he dint deserve the euros cos he got injured in the final and they started saying it was eder that won euros for Portugal and not Ronaldo... now that di Maria scored the winner against Brazil in the final, they never mentioned his name to praise him, instead the said it's messi that won it for Argentina...messi that had his last goal against Ecuador in the quarters.... the hypocrisy these messi fans exhibit is unprecedented.... they are sooooo jealous towards Ronaldo and it has made them very bitter and grumpy .... they are no longer interested in juve , its now man u ... unfortunately for them , he will shut them up again today 3 Likes |

There is something I don't understand about these Messi Vs Ronaldo argument amongst fans. Are you getting secretly getting paid for all the energy and devotion you give to these guys or it is just lack of better thing to do with your time. I've been following football passiontely since Korea/Japan 2002 and for the life of me, I can't think of any single time I spent argument about football players. |
