Arsene Wenger believes Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at Manchester United has created a problem for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer because the 36-year-old has upset the balance of the team.

The Portugal captain rejoined United on deadline day in August for a fee of around £12million after three seasons with Juventus.

However, despite an impressive six goals in nine appearances for the Red Devils since his return, United’s performances have been dismal and Sunday’s 5-0 defeat to Liverpool was the worst of the campaign so far.

The pressure on Solskjaer’s position is now mounting, particularly with Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea to come in the Premier League.

And, though Wenger insists it was not a ‘mistake’ to re-sign Ronaldo, he believes the veteran has caused Solskjaer a problem by upsetting the balance of the side.

‘I wouldn’t say it was a mistake but certainly some emotional impact was in there because he has been a fantastic player,’ said Wenger.

‘No, I believe Ronaldo can still score you the goals you need. Can he repeat every three games, very high intensity games? That’s certainly less the case today but let’s not forget he was the hero three days ago.

‘When you buy a player like that, the secret is the balance of the team. To play Ronaldo, he can win you games, but you need to create the balance around him.’

United have privately backed Solskjaer but that was before the embarrassment of the defeat to their arch rivals in their own back yard.

Antonio Conte is a leading candidate for the job and the Italian is available having left Inter Milan at the end of last season.

However, the former Chelsea boss is said to want assurances that the club are serious about competing for the Champions League before he considers taking over from Solskjaer.

I don't even know what Ronaldo was thinking when he returned back to EPL. Something tells me it's because messi moved. He wouldn't have moved had messi remained at FCB. just my assumption.

Meanwhile, the EPL is the "All eyes on you" league. If you play and live upto your hype, they will praise you. All the pundits would hype and high ball you.

But the moment you fail to live upto what is expected of you. Na then you go know how far. You'll see how toxic the English fans are.

"He's the problem of the team"

In juventus, he was the problem there. But no one talked about it.
But now that he's in England, they've noticed how he doesn't press hard like other strikers in the league and they've berated him for that.

He has even tried to excuse himself by saying he is already 36 years old, on sky'sports.

You're already 36 years old and you still decided to go to a very high intensity league?

That's just an excuse. Ronaldo should face whatever criticism is ditched at to him. He brought it upon himself. Mr new challenge

That anger ronaldo shows yesterday is regrets for following Ferguson advice to sign for manutd and not Manchester city.
The anger on Ferguson face yesterday that he thinks he let ronaldo down by not allowing ronaldo to follow is choice because he personally was involved in the convincing. If u watch recently Alex Ferguson body language against ole u will know is because of ronaldo.
Something Ferguson has not done to any manutd coach since he retired

I'm a real madrid fan... in 2016 Benitez took over real madrid after ancelotti left... from August to December, Ronaldo was a shadow of himself, he had only 5 league goals an 2 champions league goals...real madrid were 6th on the log , they cudnt even beat legia Warsaw home and away in the group. people like wenger and messi minions said Ronaldo was the problem and that he was too selfish and not helping the team that he was past his best and had aged.... I remember them saying his game play was affecting Bale
... real analyst knew benitez was the problem...the moment zidane took charge in January, he changed tactics ...and Ronaldo turned to a beast , real madrid ended up winning champions league with Ronaldo who had only 2 goals in the group, ending as top scorer with 12 goals, ended as la liga 2nd top scorer only behind suarez ... and lost the league only on the final day... Ronaldo is like a ferrari , only very tactically gifted coaches can operate him.... Ferguson, Mourinho, ancelloti and zidane are gifted coaches...not people like ole , Benitez ,pirlo, that smoker that coached Chelsea or pellegrini .... even in Portugal his national team, his coach Santos understands how to use him , the former Portuguese coaches dint ...since Santos took over his goals increased and it helped the team to their 2 major international trophies...

Man u should get zidane or conte and they will win this league despite being 8 points behind and the CL , even with Fred.... man u is too big for ole ....

After yesterday's performance I can bet ANY amount of money that Man U will not win the EPL this season. That kind of performance shows that the problem in the team is deep and it will take a new manager with tough mentality to fix it. And by the time the problem is fixed, it will be too late for Man U to catch up with City, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Man Utd buying Ronaldo will never make sense.. Ronaldo is obsessed with numbers and records. This can only spell doom for a club with aspirations.

Same with Messi.psg are obviously weaker with him. These guys are old, the have achieved all, and above all, they are a millisecond slower than what modern football requires..

Watch Thierry Henry's comeback to arsenal? He was mainly used as a supersub.. These young players egos need to be boosted and not placed under these supposed goats
