She doesn't lose anything by marrying a commoner because the only thing she appears to miss is the opportunity to become an Empress. But it is already stated that most people don't want a woman to rule over them in Japan. So she knows that her chance to become an Empress is almost zero. It is better to marry someone whom you love than to wait for a position which may be denied you at the end. The current ruler is still alive. What is the possibility that he will die any time soon.
