Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Pan-Igbo socio-cultural organization, has warned against the harsh effects of the planned one week sit-at-home directive by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the southeast region.

In a statement by its Secretary General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and sent to DAILY POST on Tuesday, against the backdrops of the planned exercise by the pro-Biafra group, Ohanaeze, maintained that the planned one week sit-at-home declared by the group was gradually having severe and destructive impacts on the genuine quest of the people to enhance and harness the economic potentials of the southeast for her development.
DAILY POST gathered that the pro-Biafra group had insisted to shut down the entire Igboland as parts of demands, for unconditional release of its detained leader, Onyendu Nnamdi Kanu, who is currently facing treasonable felony charges before Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako-led Federal High Court in Abuja.

Continuing, the Engr Chidi Ibe-led Ohanaeze Ndigbo, revealed that proponents of sit-at-home are envoys, on a move to destroy the only remaining assets(commerce) of the Igbos, in the face of external detractors, regretting that southeast had recorded exits of local and foreign investors from the region in the last two months, which, according to the group, created high level of unemployment, loss of jobs and disruption of the academic calendar, as the Ndigbo must cease it henceforth.

The highest socio-cultural group, noted with dismay that, the fact that successive and current Nigeria system had treated south-easterners in bad morality and faith, we must not resort to path of self destruction, advising the people of the southeast not to affiliate with those he alleged, remotes Ndigbo from overseas.

According to the Igbo body, “proponents of sit-at-home are not observing the exercise at abroad where they residents. In Asia, Europe, and America, ndigbo are wiser now than before. No more sit-at- home. We are in support of out-of-court settlements that will make Nnamdi Kanu regain his freedom, not through absurd enslavement of the people with the one week planned sit-at-home exercise”.

Ohanaeze further rechoed the call for genuine dialogue between internally displaced Igbo politicians and the people, especially, to end the revolt against the elites.

It said, “We observed that Igbos’ loyalty to non state actors has been abused, as they have pounced on the confidence of Ndigbo, through the absurdity of sit-at-home, and which also is conceived to obliterate the established investments in region owned by southeast elites and politicians. These proponents of sit-at-home are not local investors, entrepreneurs and importers. The idea of sit-at-home is geared towards the destruction of targeted established investments of corrupt politicians and elites since they are without any visible investments.

“The past sit-at-home by IPOB had destroyed the academic activities, small businesses, and artisans who depend on daily trade and services to feed their households. IPOB leaders don’t have any visible investments in the southeast, they are only using Ndigbo as baits and pawns against the Igbo political class especially on Anambra elections. The consequences of their actions might be detrimental and pernicious to the point where federal government will eventually deploy the super tuscon fighter jets to the southeast, in pretense to quell the fallout from the one week sit-at-home. Ndigbo should henceforth break from the local siege of proponents of sit-at-home without investments in the southeast zone”, the apex body concluded.

It is believed that*desperate times requires desperate measures", does it then follow that the whole have to receive the consequences the continuous detention of one man. No!!

Gradually, Monday will be a permanent holiday in the south east.

Everyday, Ohanaeze Ndigbo releases statements.
Everyday.
Is anything of this nature solved by talking to the press?
What's wrong with going from community to community sensitising the people they claim to lead on why they feel IPoB's directives are not to be followed? Regardless of popular opinions (by people not even in the South East), majority of people in the South East do not obey the sit at home directives because of the threat of violence. They obey because they are sympathetic to IPoB and especially MNK's plight.

If Ohanaeze wants to change the mindset of the people, they know what to do.

zedegit:

You are a bloody liar.

Why then do your fellow touts shoot guns if the people do it of their own volition?

You also mean that students whose future you want to use as collateral damage also support it?

My fellow touts? Bloody liar?
I won't join words with you Sir. All I'd like to reiterate is that having spoken to people at the grassroots (unlike you who I'm pretty sure hasn't been in the SE since this year), I stand by my assertion that the majority of Igbos in the SE have varying degrees of sympathy for the plight of MNK and think (right or wrong) that they owe him this sacrifice.
My point was that it is left for Ohanaeze to attack that mindset if they think it is a wrong one.
Good morning, whoever you are

You can't tell people how to agitate their own agitation. Focus on your own.
The people sitting at home are not complaining.

Ohaneze,
Your story never start. You're complaining that ordinary Mondays stay at home is devastating business, what will happen when there's full scale war? What will happen to the millions of Igbos who will flee to Biafra to escape tribal violence in other parts of the country?

Let all those delusional Igbos supporting a secession wake up to the horrors war and its dreadful consequences

let's face facts, the sit at home isn't helping the south east region economically, Multinationals are watching, foreign investors are watching, local investors that is the igbo top business men will be thinking twice now before investing heavily in the region, we can't hurt ourselves thinking we are hurting buhari, his tenure will pass, he is not even educated enough to be concerned about the poor man's plight, 2023 he will pack his worst team out of aso rock, Nigeria is bigger than buhari. God bless the southeast, God bless Nigeria.

Why would an Apex body of thesame tribe be like this be saying the government will deploy the tucona jets. Are those jets meant for the marginalized and suppressed population or for the terrorists in core north. May God heal this country

You refused to stand for your youths when they needed you , but you connived with federal government to kill your people calling them Terrorist.

Now you done see your life. Better work to release MNK then sit at home will stop.

Whatever they do, they must not disrupt the upcoming election in my precious state.

This iberibeism about Biafra has really gone far that every sane mind should condemn it.

We all are tired of the way Nigeria is run but killing our brothers and disrupting our businesses is pure madness.
