Ogun State High Court has fixed November 25, 2021 as commencement date for hearing on the preelection matters brought before it by the New Nigeria Peoples Party against the State Independent Electoral Commission and All Progressives Congress.

The court is expected to take all originating summons filed against respective parties at resumed sitting.

Following the outcome of the just concluded local government election in Ogun State, NNPP filed charges against OGSIEC and APC in the state.

The NNPP also dragged to court the 20 elected chairmen who emerged from the LG polls.

In an originating summon, the NNPP alleged that the APC had no locus standi to contest the elections, on the basis that the “party had dissolved its state working committee in December 8, 2020.”

The claimant also stated that the Ogun State chairman of the APC did not sign the forms of the candidates of the party.

“The caretaker committee set up by the 2nd defendant, upon the dissolution of the elected state working committee of the 2nd defendant in Ogun State by the National Executive Committee on December 8, 2020, has no lawful powers to administer the affairs of the 2nd defendant in Ogun State.

“The emergence of the 4th to 6th defendants as the chairman and members of the caretaker committee of the 2nd defendant in Ogun State is void, and no action can be founded on it.

“The state Chairman of the 2nd defendant did not sign the nomination forms of the 3rd defendants before submission to the 1st defendant on the date stipulated in the time table and schedule of activities for the July 24, 2021 local government chairmanship election,” the summons read in part.

The presiding Judge, Justice Olanrewaju Mabekoje warned that, he would not allow parties to the matter stall process.

He noted that, the Court is not ready to grant unnecessary adjournment, for speedy completion of the case.
