I heard Lekki soil is soft and not really good for storey buildings.

When people cut corners and don't use the right persons for project execution, that's the effect.

A country where you can get papers and approvals for building without it being checked by the approving authority, where bricklayers are called engineers, and execute building projects without design, where people think that all it takes to build is mixing concrete, sand and rods, forgetting that there are forces that come to play when trusses are involved.

I'm always scared of entering these shopping plazas that are springing up all over the place as if they are cars that are en vogue.

The roof of a bungalow built during lord Lugards time can be removed and two or three floors added to same foundation and people are not even worried

Go to balogun market and you'll understand how scary those look.

Till we start doing the right things, these kind of collapse will keep happening and let no one attribute this to Satan or spiritual as we are the cause of all these.

Lekki doesn't even have a natural soil. It's all reclaimed land.

Fellow Nigerians, stop using these recycled steel reinforcement made by rogue Chinco companies in Nigeria!

If you must build anything exceeding one storey, look for IMPORTED MILD STEEL from Europe (Russia, Ukraine, Germany). They're are expensive but those in the construction industry will appreciate what I just said here. Why do you think all these Berger and Setraco import their steel by themselves?

Tip: Any 12/18mm steel reinforcement that u cannot bend the first 1meter tip with your ordinary hand to form a "U" is "calamity in waiting".
It's more brittle than tensile.

Not true.
No soil is unsuitable for storey building.
Once the bearing capacity of a soil type is determined, appropriate structural design is done to recommend the appropriate foundation type.

The type that's suits the swampy land types in Lekki are majorly raft or pile foundation based on the structural design

Do we attribute it to greed then?

It's not ordinary greed. It's devilish greed. Why would someone be building a property in high brow Ikoyi and cutting costs?

Substandard materials on the rise due to high cost of building materials.

I always advice potential house owners to supervise and purchase (when necessary) building materials themselves.

Most contractors/developers are greedy, they are only interested in their profit.

mere looking at the structure show that it doesn't have proper supporting piller

So now this is it. The quest to make money has taken over the minds of some people, therefore jeopardizing safety.
How many people are ready to follow due process?

Funny enough there are a lot of unoccupied completed buildings in some estates in lagos, reason been that the rent is something else.

Hhhmmm May we not be victims of some else's carelessness

exactly what I was telling someone yesterday, lot of buildings are deserted in many estates and waiting for occupants but they keep building more and more and keep expanding their real estate to ibeju lekki as if nah ghost them dey build for.

I don't know how a sane person will go and buy land in ibeju lekki when many areas close to city is unoccupied.
