It is not advisable to run fridge/freezer on inverters but I have a friend who does. 3 KVA inverter with 4 batteries. Also know that you cannot run it for an extended time. Get a big Gen to support it.

I recently installed two solar RE installations with 3kW inverters, each with eight 225AHr 6V batteries. One is a 24V system, the other is a 48V system. Identical fridges (same manufacturer and same model). Fridge on one runs 24/7 while the other runs the fridge only during the daytime. The difference between them? Panel wattage and overall load on the system and how long these loads run. And when those loads run. Those are 4 different and largely independent variables.

My point is, it's difficult to say what an already existing system will support until an analysis of the loads are made. Or the system is designed off the ground to support intended loads.

You can buy two car batteries. Will be useless after 3-4 months depending on use.

You can buy two ups rechargeable batteries, something like these are used in fans now. They won't last long but they do the work.

Hustle and just manage buy two 100ah batteries.

Will you pay N630k for an 800VA Victron, inverter, two 200 AH Hoppecke 6 V batteries, Four 100 Watt panel, one 30 amp charge controller, a roof rack and an installation kit?
Let me know your thoughts.

Absolutely not.

FYI that reads 800VA-5kVA.

If it's the 5kVA inverter, perhaps. But it's still high.

Inverter; 200k tops
Batteries; 50k x 2
Charge controller; 40k max
Panel; 50k;

Thank you for your comment. The link is correct. That Victron model goes from 800 VA to 5 Kva. The 5 Kva unit alone retails for over N500k in Nigeria. Some Inverters are more equal than others. Victron commands a higher price than SMA in Europe. That says something does it not.

1.5kVA will carry all that comfortably.

The charging of the batteries depends on the charger on the inverter ( if it has a charger ).

You might need to get a separate charger if you find that it does not charge it well enough.

You can buy batteries anywhere. They are on Jumia, Konga, Oshodi, Alaba, Computer Village.

Whereabouts do you live?

Assuming your total wattage is around 400W per hr, lets approximate you will drain 20Amps per hour.

You have a total of 100AH, that means 5 hours but you do not want to run your batteries down all the way or they will not last as long as they ought to.

So when you have 100AH, operate with a mindset of 50AH.

On that 50AH, your 400W will last 2.5/3 hours.

You might want to read my original post again. Prag is a respected brand? Where? Xantrex is known but not the first choice in the off grid world.
That price included batteries, four solar panels, a roof rack a charge controller, a Victron inverter and an installation kit.
I will like to see a 5 Kva Xantrex at that price with all that included. I will be the first to buy.

That your Victron altogether price is still on the high side, prag or no prag.

Thank you for your opinion. I am sure there are others who share it as well as those who don't. If what you seek is another commodity then this is not the product for you. You will be better served by your Prag and Luminous. We want those who in the 80 s purchased the Mercedes 200 and not those who purchased the shinny Daewoo Racer.

Time (Hrs) = (Bv * Bc * EoI)/Load

Bv = Battery Voltage (eg 12V)

Bc = Battery Capacity (eg 200ah)

EoI = Efficiency of Inverter (minimum is 0.6 some could be 0.8, please contact your supplier)

Load = Total load of all appliances in watts (eg 34 + 50W)

Time (hrs) = (12*200*0.6)/84W

Time (hrs) = approx 17hrs (for a total load of 84W)

ibrodex:
I'm not a prof when it comes to this but with the little science knowledge I was able to install my inverter myself. Now my next deal is to get a solar panel and charge controllers. Though I have 2 bps 150ah batteries, I discover that one of the batteries is not too good. I bought a 12V 1.5KVA Xantra inverter. Here is my connection bellow.
Note: I did this to control the change over myself cos I don't want to tamper with the EDB of my apartment.

I'm currently running it on a single battery. For now. Would love to know more about how to calculate my load on it. Cos after putting on everything I normally put on the inverter shows 31%load and the battery drops to 77%. With this I want to know how long it will take me on the inverter with one battery. This is my load list.
1. 2 30W energy lights
2. 4 15W energy lights
3. 2 ceiling fans
4. 42" LED TV about 150W
5. GoTV
Others includes mobile accessories.

Would also want to know if it is more economical cos I use prepaid meter.

Take each item and multiply by the number of hours you intend to run them for. Add up everything and divide by 12 that will tell you how many AH you are using. To calculate how long it will last you can use many of available online calculators.

Jinling is becoming very popular, Noise can be disturbing but there is a compensation in the fuel consumption. Jinling generators are now available for sale on Kara website.

We currently have two models of Jinling generators. 2.3KVa @ N51,800 and 2.8KVa @N57,500 further update can be seen at Kara http://www.kara.com.ng/jinling-generators

seal777:
@shithapuns,
My flat screens are 49 watts and CPU are 2.7 amps don't really know how to convert that to watts, my bulbs are original ATK power saving bulbs.

All my utilities are power saving utilities cos of the pressure of light, i run a 4yrs old Jinling 2.0 KVA generator for an average of 10 hrs daily on 12 litres of fuel, earning N300 per day giving my chemist shop neighbor ( 2 POWER SAVING Bulbs, 1 FAN, SMALL TV) power 6pm to 11pm everyday.

I am not really pressed with the light issue, though if there is light i will save more on daily basis. JUST THAT I HATE THE NOISE THING OF THE GENERATOR.

I don't really think i can invest that much on inverter especially for commercial purpose but will be willing to have one for personal use mostly nights, fan, lcd tv and bulb.

I am confused on which onw to get to suit my private need, so much choice and experiences from consumers, will surely make up my mind based on the experiences i have read here next week.

Re: Inverter Users : Lets Have Your Experience by coderXO(m): 8:50pm On Nov 12, 2015
peaceland

It depends at what rate the battery charger/inverter charges at.

The higher the charge rate (10A, 20A, 30A, 40A), the larger the power needed to run it.

Think of it like an AC.
