A friend just forwarded this to me to help him put on NL (Citizens National Assembly) for members' opinions.

RESIGNATION FROM TEACHING UNDER KWARA SUBEB

As much as I love being with these children to impart knowledge, I have to consider my welfare and future, and that of my children. And resign early from leadership-caused modern slavery and neocolonialism from among ourselves. In my candid opinion, I have to be truthful to myself, look at that mirror and tell myself the bitter reality of life. This country may not get better anytime soon. In view of this, I don't think it is right to leave my destiny in the hands of a government that doesn't care about my well being or future.

I have diagnosed this teaching job and discovered it is a profession of slavery without future, because a time will come in Nigeria when you will find it difficult to see anybody who will want to be a teacher.

I have seen a number of retired teachers. None of our leaders will wish they ended up like them. I also hate ending up like them, so I have to exit when I am still young and agile, so that I can find something else to do to live a quality life. I always fear when I see retired teachers in Kwara State. The reason is that, I always tell myself that I may end up like this if I wait and don't exit early.

I don't know why the word teacher is synonymous to the word poverty. I hate that stigma. I hate being seen from that prism in the society. There was a day I approached a bank for a soft loan, I was bitter when I heard "we don't give Kwara SUBEB loan". They were right because they already tagged us with poverty, never-do-well and penury. They believed there was no way I could pay back with the peanut I am earning. In my understanding, they were right.

If teaching is not a job to give you the quality of life you will like to live in Nigeria, I think teaching in Kwara is made in hell. Not comparable to teaching in any of the states in Nigeria. Imagine being on the same spot fort eight years! Not even the children we are teaching are denied their promotions. They are promoted every session. Majority of them were enrolled in primary one, and have graduated to be in JSS 2 while their teachers remain on the same spot. 3-4 months salary arrears are there unpaid. This governor promised heaven on earth before his ascension to power, but things are worse off under him. He doesn't even talk about our welfare.

As a teacher, my saddest day of the month is the day salary is paid, because I already know I don't have anything from it. Imagine buying Maggi, food stuff and other groceries on credit in the neighborhood! And when you receive your salary, the first thing you do is to pay your debt in the neighborhood and use the remainder of your salary for transporting yourself to work for the new month. What is the essence of working if I may ask? I was sick sometimes last year. I needed a surgery, I had to resort to begging my friends for support. What am I working for when I can't take care of my health? Kwara SUBEB is one sector that doesn't reward hard work and qualifications. It may interest you to hear that I have M.Ed and some other professional qualifications in supply chain management and logistics. Gone are those days when you think you have security with a government job. The reality today is that there may be job security, but your life is not secured. You may die out of poverty-induced depression or sickness, especially when you don't have money to care for your health. This I have tried to avoid.

Many teachers in Kwara State are living in poverty and depression for not being able to meet their basic needs. They don't like it anyway, they have thought of exiting, but maybe they fear the unknown. The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, another best time is today. I will face my fear, rather than run away from it. l cannot allow the Kwara State government to waste my precious youthful age when I can still hustle. Not even our governors will wish themselves and their children the poor quality of life teachers are living in Kwara State. Even if by tomorrow they pay teachers in Kwara State 10 million Naira per month, I think I have satisfied my conscience to set myself free from this modern day slavery. I can no longer confine myself to the prison of conscience when I can always leave. Nobody is holding me down. I would rather work as a Keke rider, a mason, or a farmer rather than staying back for 35 years out of laziness and fear. As unpopular as this my decision may look to many youths out there, it is my advice to set yourselves free while you are still agile and active. You will do well as a farmer.

My Honourable Secretary sir, it is on the foregoing that I tender my resignation as a Kwara SUBEB teacher. Please, convey my letter to the appropriate authority for immediate effectiveness. Thanks

Yours faithfully,

So, you want him to include his name on a popular forum like Nairaland. Are you kidding?

My brother, don't say the above when applying for new jobs o. Interviewers may see you as casting your previous employers in bad light. Simply put " career development necessitated your decision to resign".
Those Hr managers can be funny sometimes

Hypocrite.
Salary he didn't state and when was the last salary he was paid.
Employees in Nigeria like hiding their salary while at the same time asking for help. What are they afraid or ashamed of?

Who do you expect to read such a long essay?

This write-up should be written separately and captioned as "WHY I RESIGNED" or "LETTER OF RESIGNATION LETTER" and attach to the resignation letter.

By the way, you need to be formal in your letter. The tittle should simply be: "RESIGNATION LETTER".

No need to describe the type of the job on the tittle as you addressed the letter to the relevant authority of your ministry.

Kwara generates more revenue than the bleak state you crept out from. But as usual you only know what is best for others never for your poor state with chronic acute thieves.

Teachers are suffering, it is an ugly trend. At least this teacher is being paid, but Wike owes teachers, and he is not the only one. There are many like him who do not treat teachers right. Some teachers are in the hand of kidnappers no one is saying anything. Despite FG increasing their benefits, it does not go far enough.
I watch a demonstration in the US by teachers, it is the same story, they are being paid less that one said she became a surrogate mother to meet up with her financial challenges.
I don't understand this trend of undervaluing very important members of the society who contribute significantly in grooming the next generation of leaders. This is sad.
