I'm asking this for education purpose.

I recently got into discussion with a friend and it was about a 2005 BMW X3 outrunning a 2008 Toyota Tundra (I had to include the year so that you can get the spec info for the bases of my stand point, and educate us correctly).

Long story short, my point was that the ability of a car to "speed" is determined basically by things like torque, horses power, weight but my point was countered by the almighty "German machine" stand point.

Another listener even believed that the Toyota Hilux will outrun a Hummer � (He drives a government Hilux � often as part of the "pilot" convoy).

I know what I know, BUT what I don't know is how to best educate them.
Please, give layman analysis and/or technical analysis that I can share with them on this matter.
