The Management of the National Youth Service Corps Directorate Headquarters, South West Area Office and the Osun State Secretariat along with retired Officers of the Scheme on Saturday, bid farewell to late Chief Olusayo Adebanjo AKINNIGBAGBE in a grand style at Ilesa, Osun State.

Late Chief Akinnigbagbe, a native of Odo, Atakumosa Local Government Area of Osun State, aged 74 years, was laid to rest at his home town. He commenced his professional career at NYSC in 1975 and afterwards occupied various positions in NYSC nationwide before his retirement in 2001. He served as the Chairman of the NYSC Foundation after his retirement and deeply impacted the lives of both staff and corps members alike.

The celebration of life took place at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Ilesa, Ifofin, Ilesa, Osun State where various Psalms and prayers were made in gratitude to God as an indication of the victory of Jesus over death and that of late Pa. Olusayo Adebanjo Akinnigbagbe who has joined the saints triumphant

The celebration proceeded to Heringan Hotel at Imo-Ilesha where NYSC bigwigs, families, friends, well wishers and corps members graced the occasion. Some of the scheme's bigwigs at the event include: the retired Director Planning Research and Statistics, Chief Anthony Ani, along with several other retired Officers of the Scheme.

Others at the event were, Alh. Abdulrasak Salawu, Director (Community Development Service and Special Projects) Director (Corps Welfare and Health Services), Mr Ayodele Omotade, Director South West Area Office, Mrs. Akin-Moses Oluwafunmilayo, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors of the Scheme both in the State and NDHQ, serving corps members paid their last respects.

It was indeed a celebration to witness as the NYSC Band, Osun State were on display with the Road Safety Club effectively directing traffic.

The wife of the deceased, Abosede Grace Akinnigbagbe in her words described death as cruel for taking her husband away from her and went further to emphasize on the fact that he would not be forgotten because of the numerous lives he impacted in his life time. She described his sojourn on earth as a victorious one as according to her, "he came, he saw and he conquered".

She further appreciated the Director General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim for the show of love to her late husband and the immense support of the Scheme towards the success of the burial ceremony of her late husband. She described the Scheme as a big loving family that supports her members always even after retirement.

Late Chief Olusayo Akinnigbagbe died on the 15th September, 2021 and was buried on the 27th November, 2021.
