Fuel subsidy has always been a problem; from its management to the fact that it’s eating up govt finances that should have been used for other capital projects. Reputable financial institutions from World Bank to IMF and renowned economists have consistently called for its removal and Tinubu knows this but chose to play dangerous and unpatriotic politics about it in 2012 all for his egotistic and selfish interest.

If the removal had been allowed to succeed in 2012, by now Nigerians would have adjusted accordingly but we here today because of Tinubu and his minions.
This tell you about the character of the next catastrophe they said is the most qualified fella to continue the suffering.

On Monday 2, 2012, Alhaji Ahmed Bola Tinubu and his minions led a protest christened Occupy Nigeria against the removal of subsidy by then President Goodluck Jonathan.

Then, fuel was to cost 140 naira per litre as a result of the subsidy removal. And the government in power then introduced what it called Subsidy Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P). The program was going to ensure the rolling out of govt sponsored transport vehicles that run cheaper than others. Another thing the program was to do was to introduce a scheme that would empower youths with startup capital (not 5k chewing gum money) through a merit pool. But the protest scuttled this wonderful policy and ensured that we will continue with the evil of subsidy until a later date when we will still bear the brunt.

Now, the govt of Muhammad Buhari, who himself once denied the existence of fuel subsidy, is planning to finally remove fuel subsidy by February 2022 with fuel projected to sell for 340 naira or more. That’s more than double what it would have cost in 2012. As palliative, govt is planning to pay 5000 naira to 40 million Nigerians( a joke and ridicule of what SURE-P would have been).

The big question that every sincere Nigerian is asking is, “where are those who led Occupy Nigeria in 2012?” What is their reaction to the planned subsidy removal? When are they occupying Nigeria again? What has changed?

You see? Fuel subsidy has always been a problem; from its management to the fact that it’s eating up govt finances that should have been used for other capital projects. Reputable financial institutions from World Bank to IMF and renowned economists have consistently called for its removal and Tinubu knows this but chose to play dangerous and unpatriotic politics about it in 2012 all for his egotistic and selfish interest.

If the removal had been allowed to succeed in 2012, by now Nigerians would have adjusted accordingly but we here today because of Tinubu and his minions.

So back to my question, what is Tinubu’s reaction to planned subsidy removal and when is he leading a protest against it?

Jonathan's government was not investing massively in infrastructure, neither in industry, oil and gas(no new FPSO or LNG plant).
Our funds were ending up as diamond bra, luxury yacht, Miami penthouse by Aluko and Jude Omokhore Diezani boys.

Who will want them to have more money to loot?

The fact is, most Nigerians are opposed to fuel subsidy removal.

Now, Tinubu did the wrong thing by opposing fuel subsidy removal, and the fact is, he should have known better, having all the investments in the oil industry, or knowing people who do, that removing fuel subsidy not only benefits Nigerians, but also would benefit people like him a lot.

But the fact is, Tinubu or no Tinubu, Nigerians don't want fuel subsidy gone. Most Nigerians did not want fuel subsidy gone in 2012, and they won't have wanted it gone today.

Try posting a thread on fuel subsidy removal here, and you would be opposed and abused by most people here. It does not matter that you supported PDP, secession, APC, Tinubu, Buhari, GEJ, etc , etc...support fuel subsidy removal, and you are derided as a joker...or as insane

Tinubu and Buhari took advantage of Nigerians' anger against subsidy removal to get into power. That one is certain. But if they had supported fuel subsidy removal...by 2015, they, and the PDP elite , including GEJ...would have all been swept out of power, and replaced with politicians who were cunning enough to back fuel subsidy. While it would be good to see all the PDP and APC politicans out in the wilderness ....the fact remains that the destructive subsidy would still be in place and it would be in place because Nigerians want it..meanwhile its effect on the economy would persist.

Blaming Tinubu , while good for his opponents, and to be honest, I don't want Tinubu in Aso Rock....I don't think he was spectacular as Lagos Governor, and so on,.....for subsidy not going, is a clever device by his opponents to prevent him from taking Aso Rock. In other words, the player is tasting his own medicine. It would be good for Tinubu to realise that he made a mistake not supporting subsidy removal...because if he had, by now we would have received the benefits. And he could have even been basking in the reflected glory. But no, he chose to oppose the sane idea in 2012, and here we are (SLS who fell out with GEJ still supported fuel subsidy removal, EVEN after falling out with GEJ BECAUSE for SLS, some decisions trump politics. GEJ was making a sane decision, and it made sense.)

But the fact is, Tinubu, or no Tinubu, most Nigerians refuse to support removal of fuel subsides. Even if Tinubu had backed subsidy removal in 2012...as he should have....he would have been disowned by his supporters. Nigerians prefer fuel subsidy. That's why people like Abacha, and even Obasanjo could not remove subsidy completely...they would have been swept out of power

Still, it is good that Tinubu is being called out for not doing the right thing in 2012...putting country above parochial interests.

You don't play opposition to deceive people; you play opposition to defend people. A good man stands for the truth irrespective of where he found himself. Tinubu does not have integrity. He can never be Nigeria President. Team Osibanjo
why can't atiku lead protest is he not in opposition ? What is holding him

Because he was in opposition then

What are the current oppositions doing that they can't lead the subsidy protest

So to you guys, opposition politics is about deceiving the people?

Exploiting the ignorance of the multitude?

Putting quest for power above patriotic and altruistic good of the nation?

So you admit therefore, that the action of January 2012 was selfish politics informed by quest for power rather than the good of the country?
