Level of investment in the relationship

One of the things that hold people down in an abusive relationship is their level of investment in the relationship.

Investment in a relationship can equate money, time, attention, feelings and emotions and sometimes body (selx), so letting go of all they have invested in the relationship is what they can't possibly seem to do.

So weighing their level of investment in the relationship, the thought of giving it all up becomes scary, so they prefer to stay in the abusive relationship.

Most times when people break up in a relationship and are heartbroken, they are not heartbroken because of the person that left them.

They are often heartbroken because of their investments in the relationship, and that's why when a relationship ends, the person with the highest level of investment gets hurt the most.

So when a relationship turns abusive and the abused continues being in the relationship, then it could be because of their investment in the relationship.

Even though that's not good a reason enough to continue being in an abusive relationship.
