creolehunt: You already have a MSc in Social Science , why waste more time and funds on a MBA at this stage of your career, get your CIPM build up your experience and in 5 years do your MBA |

A plain MBA is ok. You can still back it up with cipm accreditation at your own pace if finance is an issue. creolehunt: |

creolehunt: No dear, it doesn't. In fact, a lot of people prefer to do their postgraduate in NOUN because they get the best of both worlds: 1. You would have enough time to continue working and gaining experience or doing the CIPM. 2. NOUN is far better structure-wise than a lot of conventional universities. All your courses and outlines are available online, but in conventional unis, you keep waiting for lecturers to dictate their course outlines to you. A lot of lecturers in regular unis wanna extort students, they miss classes and the quality of instruction is not always better. Please, if you went to a regular uni at bachelor's level, don't waste another 2 years in a conventional university. 3 Likes |

THE BEST PEOPLE TO ASK = HR MANAGERS WHERE CAN YOU GET HR MANAGERS = Go on LinkedIn, search for top organisations or the organisation you intend working, check profiles of people that work in HR there, look at their qualifications. Let this inform your decision. My Cent = It is important that you gauge the individuals advising you, on this platform, common sense or certification or qualification or certain experiences are not a requirement for being a member of Nairaland or for contributing. Linkedin is a better place to ask such question. MBA is the most popular professional degree in the world, it gives you an overall knowledge of business (Marketing, Economics, Finance and other courses you will be introduced) with concentration on Human resource and you getting MBA HR is good for your career anytime, status wise. SHRM, CIPM, HRCI are great professional qualifications in HR, but especially with CIPM, I may not see you as having an overall knowledge of the business as someone with MBA, but I will see you as very focused professionally and more HR oriented. I think to be outstanding, the best path is to do both. If one must do just one, based on my experience in HR, then I will say, go for SHRM, CIPM or HRCI, if you are solely HR oriented, the certifications requires a much more elaborate and detailed syllabus than you would get in an MBA. Also, when you ask in most organizations, you will find out that certifications such as ACCA, ICAN, HRCI, CIPM would likely aid your promotion quickly than an MBA. but there are some business schools that, the MBA there is highly valued even beyond the professional qualifications, but can you afford such?? I did a brief check for you to look at some organisations management team...you can check others as well In UBA - Patricia Aderibigbe, is the Group Head, Human Resources. She does not have any MBA, but she is a fellow of CIPD. (CIPD is just like CIPM) https://www.ubagroup.com/leadership/ In FBN holding - Oyinade Kuku, is the Head, Human Resources. She is an associate member of CIPM and CIPD. https://www.fbnholdings.com/oyinade-kuku/ In KPMG - Gloria Ibeziako, is the Head, People, Performance and Culture (PPC). No MBA, but a member of CIPM (UK).https://home.kpmg/ng/en/home/contacts/i/gloria-ibeziako.html In OANDO Plc - Ima Ofulue, is the Chief, Human Resource. She has an MBA, but she is also a Certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR) https://www.oandoplc.com/staff-member/ima-ofulue/. In British American Tobacco, Nigeria- Temitope Akinsanya, is the former Area Head, Human Resource, she has now moved to East African Breweries. She holds an MBA with specialisation in Personnel Management. No known professional certification. Nigeria LNG- Terhemba Emmanuel Makeri, is the GM, Human Resource. He has no MBA, but he is a member of CIPM. https://www.nigerialng.com/the-company/Pages/Management-Team.aspx?exec=11 there are several others, the above are just random. You can check three or four organisations too or check Linkedin as earlier suggested, with your findings, you can decide for yourself. 10 Likes 1 Share |

I am a HR manager,I would advise you to go for Cipm certification because in practice the certification is more valued than your MBA.They are a lot of things you would learn during your certification that MBA would not expose you to. You can even do any of the international certification like SHRM,HRCI and CIPD. Most HR role advert would specify HR certification is an add advantage. 1 Like |

BuyAndSellStuff: So where did he say any of the rubbish you just typed. Is he not allowed to have an opinion? Must he rate NOUN because you try and bully him to without giving any cogent reason to do so. An MBA from Oxford vs Oxford Brookes ,are they rated the same anywhere in the world? I have never had any reason to think less of or anything negative about anyone who studied in NOUN (I know a few of them) but your three wretched replies on this thread has made me have a rethink. Rubbish!! 1 Like |

My own advice here for the OP is to go for CIPM and then after u can go for MBA because your MBA without any professional certification will make u later regret your action by the time u start looking for job with it. Don't forget this, any cert from NOUN without a professional cert is as useless as junior waec. Although their modules is one of the best in Nigeria but don't know why Nigerians look down on those who finish from there... Best of luck. |
