You are very correct, right from my childhood their have never been a president of Nigeria that have not been disparaged, but wait and see how Nigeria will start praising the same president after the end of his tenure.

Such a leader would never emerge in a complex and volatile country like Nigeria. No matter who gets elected into power, there'll always be a section of the country that would disapprove of his policies, be it for political reasons or otherwise. This could partly be attributed to the 'winner-takes-all' element of our system of government.

In our system, even if the winner in an election wins by just one vote, his party get the exclusive right of forming the government, leaving the opponent feeling embittered and in some case cheated. As a result, such an embittered opponent (along with his supporters) would do everything to frustrate the government in power. They'll never see or have anything good to say about the government in power.

The right question is;

Has there been any individual since we returned to Democracy who did not abuse the office and make mockery of everything that the founding fathers worked for?
