The Department of State Services (DSS) has warned citizens, including traditional rulers, politicians and religious leaders, to refrain from engaging in any activity that could lead to lawlessness in the country.

In a statement issued on Tuesday bearing the signature of its spokesperson PN Afunanya, the DSS said it had issued the warning in light of its understanding of how some people are seeking power blindly using non-traditional means, they should not be incited by inciting citizens and fanning the flames of politics.

The DSS statement comes at a time when the security situation is deteriorating, especially in northern Nigeria, where many people are angry over what they say is the government’s failure to address the problem.

The statement said: “Such ideologues have already begun to politicize insecurity in some parts of the country for selfish reasons.
