Said it the moment he collapsed on that pitch and was given CPR. That it was all over but some folks here were yapping out ignorance. Few will give him health insurance to continue playing and so few clubs will be willing to give him a contract, not to talk of the devastating publicity it will procure for them if it recurs. Feel sorry for him but that is the reality. If he was at his 'root' club he would just be moved back office to continue in some capacity. Unfortunately he was at the early stages of his Inter contract and not impacted the club, fans and owners so not much sentimental attachment to give him a soft landing. |

ProfAmaben: Cardiovascular issues are more complicated than you are making it. A person can have a healthy heart and still suffer a type of cardiac arrest if they get hit in the chest. And then, there is the issue of over exertion which can lead to cardiac arrest. Exercise is only one of many factors that reduce risks of cardiac arrest. Exercise may not be enough, if you are predisposed to cardiovascular problems or if you have some unhealthy habits. |

ProfAmaben: They put in a lot of work behind the scene. There are the rigorous trainings, and the time registered in the gym. Then, these men go back home to their families, and still carve out family time away from their tight schedules. It is not about the matches. The trainings are in fact, usually more rigorous. Ever watched a goalkeeper training before? When these goalkeepers aren't active during the real game, people will often ignorantly wonder why they are getting paid that much. But go and watch the rigorous drilling they go through, especially the reaction-time drilling. 1 Like |

8stargeneral: Exercise is only one of many factors that makes out heart healthy. It is not the ONLY factor. If you want a healthy heart, you must do more than exercise regularly. You must avoid other risk factors of cardiac arrest. Stress is a risk factor for cardiac arrest and other cardiovascular problems. If you have a stressful life, exercising regularly may not be able to help. Footballers are human beings too, and so they may encounter stress in their relationships with others. Stress can come from their relationships with their parents, their children, their wives, their teammates, and even coach. Stress may even come from within. For example, they may worry about not pleasing the fans in the next match, worry about being kicked out of the first 11, worry about life-changing injuries, and even poverty. Smoking is another risk factor. You can't be smoking, and be expecting a healthy heart simply because you exercise regularly. I was an amateur boxer many years back, planning to impress and make the Olympics light heavyweight team. I remembered that nearly all of the trainers at the national stadium then were chronic smokers. These were men who were in good shape (for their age), men who had solid cardios and could put in hours of heavy works in the ring during sparring. In fact, when you sparred some of these men, they would tire you out, despite being far older than you. But they had the unhealthy habit of chronic smoking. There are many other factors that can make your regular exercise a waste of time. So, exercising regularly is not enough. It helps, but in collaboration with other healthy practices. 1 Like |

Re: Inter Milan ‘to Terminate’ Eriksen’s Contract Six Months After Cardiac Arrest by Feggie3: 3:26pm On Dec 16, 2021 |
jullary:Footballers do develop cardiomegaly and/or bradycardia secondary to prolonged strenuous exercises. With development of an enlarged heart they may go on to develop ectopic foci which may cause unsynchronized discharge differing with the SA node, this phenomenon will translate to development of cardiac arrythmia which can lead to cardiopulmonary insufficiency, formation of intrachamber thrombus with a possibility of throwing up an emboli, then cardiac arrest is another dangerous complication. In summary, mild and we'll timed cardio exercises is most suitable and generally accepted because it barely changes the normal anatomy and physiology of the heart. I stand to be corrected and varying opinions are welcomed. |

ProfAmaben: These types are usually congenital ie they are born with it. So when they manifest later in life, its not because of lack of exercise or bad health habits but it's been there all along. What saved Kanu's career was that his own was operable. |
