Governor Obaseki Visit Family Of UNIBEN Student Raped And Murdered In Edo State (Photos)

Governor Godwin Obaseki visited the family of late 100 level Microbiology student of UNIBEN, Uwaila Omozuwa who was raped and murdered inside a church last year, 2020.

Recall the Microbiology student was murdered inside a popular church, Redeemed Christian Church of God after been raped by some men.

Speaking to the family, the Governor said.

''Uwaila did not die in vain. The federal and state governments have taken stiffer actions against gender-based violence. We are here to continue to celebrate her life as we continue to fight against gender-based violence.

"Her death was the reason for the establishment of gender-based violence committee. The Edo State Government has put mechanisms in place to fight gender-based violence-related offenses.

"Her death led to the promulgation of the Violence Against Persons (VAP) law in the state and people are now aware of the crime."

Okay... a great gesture by the Governor.

However, I am always of the opinion that we should imbibe a culture of "proactivity" rather than the usual "reactionary" and photo ops.

Those that raped this lady to death are no more,this is what I perceived

That's good but I'm still waiting for the day the law will set good example with perpetrators of such dastardly crimes. Severe punishments like public execution, beheading etc, that will deter intending culprits.
