backbencher: I think you are just fixated on removing subsidy. You have a hard time grasping which should come first, subsidy removal or govt-owned working refineries. It is govt-owned refineries that should come first, then a ban on fuel importation and subsidy will fizzle out. let all our domestic consumption be managed by the govt-owned refineries while private refineries can target export. What is being done now is that govt has scammed us and placed us in the hands of private businessmen who may not care about fair prices. And considering that refineries arent cheap, it is going to be a monopolistic market for a long time. There are national assets that shouldn't be in private hands tbh. Nothing stops dangote from selling at a crazily high price too. A govt-owned, corruption free refinery will definitely have money to maintain its operations if it serves our local consumption and exports to neighboring countries. And that will happen at a fair price compared to importing from miles away |
