Not true. They pay a lot for their uninterrupted power supply.. The average household power bill in the USA is around $115 per month, about N65,000. That's more than N750,000 per year in Nigerian terms. Yes, Americans receive higher salaries than us, so it's not a like for like comparison. That said, the Nigerian government and the power generation companies need to invest billions of dollars to get us to uninterrupted power supply. That money is simply not available. When you combine that with a significant number of power users' unwillingness to pay their bills, partly as a result of breakdown of public trust in the Discos, then you realise that we are several decades away from the realisation of nationwide, consistent uninterrupted power supply. 2 Likes |

Invest in prepaid meters and set up a task force to ensure that they are not bypassed. Increase tariffs (reasonably) afterwards if you have to. Simple! But no, they prefer estimated billing where they can rip consumers off. They refuse to invest yet they make a lot of money which they under report in order to avoid taxes. |

What goes around comes around. EEDC steals more. The level of crimes that they commit with these their approximated qnd conjured bills is alarming. We cried for a prepaid meter to be given to us but they supplied us with postpaid meter so that they can continue with their evil practice by extorting Xtra cash from their customers. How can a customer that doesn't have any electronic gadgets apart from energy bulb and charging of phones will be paying bills of 10k monthly. Who is the real thief here. |

Good one. I just wasn't in the mood to reply the fellow. People who haven't travelled outside Nigeria will just be spreading ignorance. Energy is not cheap anywhere in the world, that said the fact remains that distribution companies in Nigeria are ripping Nigerians off. |

Theft of electricity is criminal. On the other hand, I don't see any manufacturing business surviving with the current electricity price coupled with the 350/l cost of diesel. Last last products eg plactic for packaging will be imported from China at cheaper cost. |

good you were able to compare terms with emphasis on salary variation. So expecting the average household in Nigeria to pay 10,000 or more when minimum wage is paltry 30,000 is way too much. |
