Abiola was killed by the Northern military elements (not necessarily Abdulsalam Abubakar) whom after the death of Abacha wanted to balance the power equation.
Abiola was the man that Abubakar would have handed over to should Nigeria return to democracy and the criminal elements in the military who felt that Abiola would deal with them for their role in Abacha's government snuffed life out of him and used Obasanjo to compensate the South West.

Well, this is just a theory:

In early 1998, it had been determined that for Nigeria to move on, two persons had to be put aside.

Abacha died on 8 June 1998.

There was a soft spot for Abiola.
It would have been convenient for Abiola to be out of the way; that is, for him to drop any claims on becoming president.

When Abdulsalami Abubakar became Head of State, he initially declared 7 days mourning; the next day, it was increased to 30 days.

The extension to 30 days was to give time for Abiola to make a decision.
The Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku and the United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan both (probably at different times) paid a visit to Abiola. The purpose of each visit was to convince Abiola to drop his claims.

On 6 July 1998, Abiola (still in detention) was asked about his stand on his claim to become president. He sought advice from his closest (political) associates.
Abiola did not relinquish his claim. He died the next day (7 July 1998), which happened to be the last day of the 30-day mourning period.
Was this just a coincidence?

The Americans laced that tea that Abiola drank with poison, most probably cyanide. That was their mission ab initio, to kill the Abiola presideny question once and for all, considering Abachas death a month earlier. Abiolas death was no coincidence with the US envoys visit.

I dont really see anything sensible in this write up dt suggested MKO wasnt killed. It's like Abdulsalim too is suffering from loss of memory. If this statement was truly from this General, it means, what Abiola family is saying that Abdulsalam is the brain behind MKO's death is not far from the truth.

It was obvious with medical evidence as reported that the man was poisoned with tea. You still saying it was one illness that too his life is the result if the conspiracy of the highest order plotted by the Hausa/Fulani from the north.

Something we saw live on Oputa panel, where mustapha confessed to how they killed abiola with a double belly tea jug.....

they served tea for every one right in abiola’s presence not knowing his own tea came from a separate compartment Of the same jug..


I don’t know the useless tea the guy was drinking at such a crucial time..
