Chai!!! Our oyel, resource control and all gibberish. It is beginning to clear from their faces. This can be witnessed in one nice and peaceful city of Eket. The city that used to be bubbling at night with hotel businesses and night clubs has been left deserted. No more white expatriates, no more foreigners that throng the city again. What is left now is just the shadow of the old oil city. If only they can listen then but lo and behold the bird has flew away and it's not coming back any soon. 8 Likes |

Peace breeds development and progress, life is too short for constant strife, destruction and fighting. We must learn to dialogue and talk things out, as grown civil men, we are no more in barbaric times...barbarity is not condoned or accepted by the international order in these times. |

Wasted opportunity. Come back to do what? I know the oil companies messed up the region but the indigenes were hugely compensated. Their leaders are all selfless, Stup!d and corrupt. I remember the way their youths were misbehaving back then, spending their monthly deve extravagantly on drinks and olosho. They thought the free money will flow forever.....Only few of them invested wisely 1 Like 1 Share |

AntiBMC:It's a sensible request. It's just arguable if the request is not coming too late. They were threatening to cripple Nigeria by destroying the oil companies but we all know that they need the oil coys more than other Nigerians do. They were just grandstanding then as if they really have alternative to a mutual relationship between them and the coys. I have lived in one of the communities and pleasantly surprised that they have electricity and free healthcare provided by Shell but don't pay for it. Some communities actually benefit a lot from the oil coys, even scholarship most other Nigerians don t have access to but they allowed the politicians and vicious state actors come between them and their oil coys hosted in their communities. Oil coys have been divesting for years now including Shell that divested from that my host community and these divestments are yet to abate. Now when my former host community experience criminal pipeline sabotage, the new Nigerian owners leave it to flow and flood everywhere for weeks instead of paying anyone the moment they stop them from fixing the pipes unlike then that Shell will be begging them and bringing in Soldiers to fix the oil pipeline sabotaged by some of these same saboteurs called militants like bandits killing folks now in Zamfara. They have this false impressions that it's the job of oil coys to banish poverty and sustain their cultural polygamy system were the mothers still do most of the heavy lifting in the absence of men who leave a nomadic lifestyle. Unfortunately for them, FG is gradually shifting to non oil exports especially from mining and more effective tax collection strategies. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Ofodirinwa:Drilling at sea need sophisticated equipment and more capital for cost of operation and maintenance when compared to land. Ghana has most of it's crude oil offshore waters they've made little head way with companies such as Eni, shell and others. Can you show that Nigeria has more of it's crude oil on off shore water. 1 Like |

backbencher: They did what they had to do to get the government to start focusing on the plight of the region whose lands were being destroyed, and their states suffering financially despite carrying the financial burden of the country. Their agitations even though to extremes at some point is what brought about the 13% derivation, the Niger Delta development commission and intervention programmes in that region The region was ignored until they decided to pick up arms, that seems to be the only language the Nigerian government understands... The same way it's negligence over the years has led to the desolation of Maiduguri and parts of the north east by Boko haram and same thing happening in the northwest by bandits. In extreme cases one needs to destroy to rebuild, to die so we might live. 5 Likes |

Ofodirinwa:Bro I think drilling in nigeria has been very low for a while. Also nov last year, 3 indigeneous companies recorded zero crude production (they only produced water) due to tapping of all their crude for kpofire purposes. It's that terrible. We are no longer meeting up opec quota, infact we were only producing about half of the quota for sometime. Most IOCs are no long interested in Nigeria on the long term. These militants will wake up one day and realize there are no more oil in the pipelines. 5 Likes 1 Share |
