LEADING energy company, The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) has commenced a one-year professional and vocational training for 40 youths from the SPDC Joint Venture host communities of the Assa North and Ohaji South gas project in Imo State.

Mr. Osagie Okunbor
Mr. Osagie Okunbor, Managing Director, The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) and Country Chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria.
“The aim is to ready these youths, not only for opportunities in the operations of the Assa North and Ohaji South gas development project but also in the entire Nigerian gas development value chain,” SPDC’s Country Head Corporate Relations, Igo Weli, said. The training is supervised by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), and is taking place at the Mudiame University, Irrua, Edo State.

Weli said, “The training is part of SPDC JV’s contribution to build the capacity of the people of our host communities of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo state and is the outcome of a recommendation by the NCDMB to boost the capacity of communities where oil projects are situated.”

Represented at the induction ceremony last week by SPDC Manager, Projects and Opportunities, Dr. Adebanji Adekoya, Weli said the trainees were selected from the host community cluster development boards comprising Assa, Ochia, Awarra and Obile in Assa North, and Avu, Obosima, Obuomadike, Umunwaku, Ohoba, Obitti and Umuapu in Ohaji/Egbema in Imo State.

The trainees will specialise in project management, welding, fitting, scaffolding, rigging and lifting, electrical installations, electrical engineering, carpentry, building technology, drafting, ICT, surveys, quality and safety training.

The Assa North-Ohaji South Gas Project is the most advanced of the seven critical gas projects by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The project is at the heart of Nigeria’s National Gas Master Plan aspirations to grow indigenous domestic gas market for additional power and industrial projects.

Speaking at the induction, Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, Simbi Wabote commended the training and described it as “part of the country’s aspiration to achieve 70 percent local content retention in the oil and gas sector.” Wabote, who was represented by the NCDMB Manager, Human Capacity Development, Mrs. Angela Okoro, said, “The agency is passionate about the project and would continue to strengthen human capability development in the sector.”

The training is one of the opportunities offered by the project to the host communities where 60 percent of skilled and semi-skilled workers are from the communities and more than 10 percent of equipment operators are also locals.

Located approximately 25 kilometres outside Owerri, the Imo State capital, the Assah North-Ohaji South Gas project, on completion, will deliver 300 standard cubic feet of gas per day to the domestic gas market and sell 20kbpd of condensate to a nearby refinery. The project scope includes drilling of six wells, construction of a primary treatment facility and gas evacuation pipeline in a unitised field between SPDC JV’s OML 21 and SEPLAT JV’s OML 53.

Where are the village chestbeaters saying "No amount of gas would be taken from iboland"?
Tell those toothless mofos that this gas is going all the way to Kaduna. How about that?.
The gas in Alaigbo would be used to revitalize the manufacturing hub in Kaduna and Kano.
Una go serve North taya.

This shows you're ignorant of Nigerian Energy sector especially when it comes to natural gas.

What you have in Bonny is, in a layman's term "A collection terminal of gas for export"

Many pipelines are piping natural Gas to Bonny from onshore...mainly from Imo, Abịa and Rivers upland like Obigbo and Afam.

It's not a secret anymore that ANOH project is biggest natural gas project in sub Sahara africa worthing over 1 billion dollars.

Imo State and Anambra are the kings of natural gas in Nigeria

Anambra Basin and Imo State gas fields will redefined Gas project in West Africa subregion.

This is the major reason many informed ibos are bidding for independence.

Hater!!!

Gas is the future and Imo State is already positioning itself to take full advantage. A refinery is already in place utilizing byproducts from there!

A gas power plant is being built nearby too!!

Imo people are already being trained to work there!!

The entire value chain is already domesticated while others will be exported.

So stop hating because Imo State is on the rise!!!

The dude is very ignorant.

The so called terminals on those coastal areas are mainly for Storage and export purposes.

I was shocked when an Uncle in Calabar once told me how NNPC and International Oil companies connive to rub communities on. Onshore oil by providing "fake statistics" of hydrocarbon output.

Just Google Oil and gas fields in Nigeria, you will start noticing that some onshore areas with many oil fields produce very little.

How can a state like Imo with over 100 wells not produce over 100kBPD yet the state is littered with Pipelines leading to Bonny.
Abịa has same fate

Bullshit!.
This is just one out of 7 new gas projects or initiatives across the country. This is just one. Use your brain and stop talking crap. While this project has not even been completed, it's a work in progress.
Brass gas project has been feeding the country for about 20years without nobody from the region making noise. Imo gas isn't redefining nada, it's just a project for domestic use. It's just adding to the surplus supplies we already have.

It is not yet official. Even in crude oil, we don't know who has the largest deposits, we only know who produces the highest quantity of litres per day. It is normal for government officials to declare a new project as the highest, the largest or the best to keep the excitement.

There's nothing stopping Imo gas from feeding the pipeline to AKK. Imo gas will be linked to the pipeline. It is a project whereby the east would feed the north for gas supply. You're not in govt, better keep shut.

Of course it is barren, anything that has not been feeding the federation is barren. Let the project be completed first and then FG making money from it, then we shall see. For now, Southeast is contributing nothing.

Modified; Ipob would blow up the pipelines abi?.. Lol.. This is not crude oil o, this is gas. Your region go burn taya.

Do you even know where Imo state is, you think it's viable to run a pipeline from sounthern Imo all the way to somewhere like kaduna.
Akk is already gulping $2b and from Imo to kaduna will be way more expensive, we never even talk about the cost of the gas plant itself, money they'll use for three power projects in Imo state and still have balance. Oga they'll build their power plant where the gas is and incorporate it into the national grid. Akk gas project has other benefits, like cooking and stuff that's why they made it happen.
If you don't have enough info just mind your business
