Every stats you can think of , Messi always tops .
If not for Luxembourg,Andorra and Moldova and Liechtenstein in national teams ,statpadder Ronaldo would not have even scored half of his national team goals .
Messi - G.O.A.T

If not for Eibar , valladolid , levante ,Venezuela, Bolivia and Peru...messi go de struggle with saviola or Pablo Aimer with number of goals scored

Some of the greatest goalscorers in football history have plied their trade in Europe, but only a select few have won the Golden Shoe.

Each season, the race for the Golden Shoe is often hotly contested with the best goalscorers across the continent vying for the accolade.

Tallies of upwards of 30 goals are usually required in order to win the trophy, but the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have taken things to another level in recent years.

If you are wondering how it works, GOAL takes a look at the European Golden Shoe, its history, the players that have won it, how it is awarded and more.

[/i]What is the Golden Shoe?

The European Golden Shoe (sometimes referred to as the European Golden Boot) is an award that is given to the player who finishes the season as the leading league scorer across all of Europe's top divisions.

First introduced for the 1967-68 season by French football magazine L'Equipe - who called the award the Soulier d'Or , which translates to 'Golden Shoe' - it is presented on an annual basis.

While conceived by L'Equipe , the responsibility for awarding the Golden Shoe has been the remit of European Sports Media (ESM) - an association of football-themed publications including Marca ,
La Gazzetta dello Sport and kicker among others - since the 1996-97 season.

How are Golden Shoe points scored?
Since ESM took over the running of the Golden Shoe award in 1996-97, a points system based on league strength has been utilised in order to determine the top scorer.

UEFA's coefficient is the yardstick for points weighting and the idea behind it is to reward players who score goals in leagues that are considered to be of a higher standard - thus more difficult to score in.

Goals scored in the continent's top five leagues being multiplied by a factor of two, those scored in the leagues six to 21 are multiplied by a factor of 1.5 and the remaining leagues by a factor of one.

The top five European leagues are: La Liga, the Premier League, Serie A, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1.

Golden Shoe winners
You can see a list of Golden Shoe winners since the 1996-97 season, when ESM took over the running of the award, in the table below.
Golden Shoe winners since 1996-97
As well as the above winners, players to have scooped the accolade prior to 1996-97 include Eusebio, Gerd Muller, Hugo Sanchez, Marco van Basten, Ian Rush and Hristo Stoichkov.
Notably, the award was not given out between 1991-92 and 1995-96 , following a dispute with the Cyprus Football Association in 1990-91 over who the rightful winner was. Red Star Belgrade's Darko Pancev, who scored 34 goals that season, was later presented with the Golden Shoe in 2006.

You can see the full list of winners from 1967-68 on the ESM website.
Who has won the most Golden Shoe awards?
It will come as little surprise to most football fans that Lionel Messi has won the most Golden Shoe awards. The Barcelona icon, who is now on the books at Paris Saint-Germain, has secured the prize on six occasions (2009-10, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19).
No prizes for guessing that Messi's perennial rival Cristiano Ronaldo follows the Argentina international with four Golden Shoes, which were won across his time with Real Madrid (2010-11, 2013-14, 2014-15) and Manchester United (2007-08).
After Messi and Ronaldo, no player comes close, with only a handful managing to clinch the trophy more than once. Thierry Henry, Luis Suarez, Diego Forlan, Eusebio and Gerd Muller all won it twice, as did Mario Jardel, Fernando Gomes and Dudu Georgescu. Former Rangers striker Ally McCoist finished as Europe's top scorer in 1991-92 and 1992-93, but did so during a time when the award was not deemed official.

Golden Shoe trophy

The trophy for the Golden Shoe is, unsurprisingly, a golden shoe or, more accurately, a golden football boot on a stone base.

Designs have changed over the years but the current trophy appears to have been based on the famous Adidas Predator style of boots, specifically the Predator Precision edition.

Of course, laliga is the easiest to score goals in Europe.
I keep telling people that if Messi had moved around like Ronaldo did, Suarez, Neymar, Lukaku, and Aguero would have performed better than him

Scoring goals doesn't make it a farmers league...try to apply intelligence... reason is that there is a huuuuuge gap between Barcelona real madrid and the rest .... the reason messi is not doing well in France is cos the team is not built around him like the mistake barca did... that was the most stupid thing barca ever did... the sort of mistake arsenal did when Henry was there...

I am happy votes does not decide this award. Otherwise, they would have accused FIFA, UEFA & French football Magazine of corruption.

Messi won Balon D'or and FIFA Best in 2019.

Some of Ronaldo's hypocrites said the system was rigged to favour Messi.

This year, he won Balon D'or and Lewy was awarded FIFA Best, same hypocrites turned around to say FIFA award is better cos National Team Coaches and Captains voted.

They've been mute since i asked, who voted Messi FIFA Best in 2019? same FIFA they all accused of corruption in 2019.

Suddenly, FIFA is free from all allegation of corruption cos Lewandoski won FIFA Best.

Can you now see they are all hypocrites??
and the fact Henry never won a ballon d'or with all his scoring exploit. He is one of the most underrated striker of all time.

I wonder if some of you make research before coming here to spite rubbish.

How can you say la Liga is the easiest league to score goals? When La Liga is not even in top 3 of high scoring leagues.

Where will you put Eredivisie, Bundesliga, or Serie A who are rank on number 1,2, 3 respectively?

I think is Messi that you people hate. Cus when other people do it, it is good but when Messi do it then it becomes bad.

Lewandoski scores just 64 goals last season is a league where they score goals like water, you people said he deserve ballon d'Or. But if it was Messi that bang that same goals in Ligue 1 now, you will people will say is because is farmers league. Just this season alone Lewandoski has bang over 20goals and no one is saying the is too easy to score goals. But you can say is easy to score goals in La Liga because Messi won 6 golden boot?

Na hypocrisy go kill some of you.

Na hypocrisy go kill some of you.

U need to apply intelligence once again... messi wasn't the only player to have done it...below is the list of top goal scorers in the 4 leagues apart from the EPL cos we are familiar with that ... it simply shows u that its an easy league for credible goal scorers ... if players like cavani and Ibrahimovic were full time players for either real or barca ...they wud hv blasted same number of goals like we can see below .... even forlan that cudnt score 15 EPL goals for man u was also blasting in la liga .... bundesliga had just only Lewandowski breaking barriers... Spanish league had sanchez , de Lima, Ronaldo messi forlan suarez all blasting goals like it was going out of fashion.. even David Guiza fired 27 with mallorca .... if its only messi that did it , I will understand, but others did as well.... suarez played in both leagues so as Ronaldo.... the year messi did 50, the following yr Ronaldo did 48 grin grin... thats a free scoring league for expert scorers....salah will blast 50 goals in that league

Ronaldo is the only person from our current time.
But even at that, both in the past and in the present,, Only Messi Occupied that spot.

European Golden Shoe.
Is Africa inside Europe again?

I wasn't contradicting your headline. I am asking if Africa doesn't have awards or doesn't play football
