You are right, that word is stored in their unconscious mind, and there may be no stronger word to counteract it, they also need a more powerful word to undo the belief that been ruthless and without a soul will make them successful.

A phrase of words that combines, humanity, handwork, originality/authenticity, bravery, opportunities, creativity, dreams, introspection and consistency can undo such negative word for subconscious beliefs.

Samson0599:

You nailed it more bro especially this our Nollywood movies and their rawness when speaking, these kids catch those words and thought it's the right thing....words like use what you have to get what you want and the likes..... These movies affects children's way of thinking, imagine kids watching adults opening smoking and all that. May God help us

Yes, even in the Bible. People offer humans sacrifice. The essence of those movies is to teach moral lessons and ensure one doesn't fall victim of their strategies. A good example is the Rev. King movies, One Chance movie and the rest.

That's is the point, if all that Nollywood's does is report, and not educate or inspire, then there is no value in it, seems it underestimate the power its wields.

Everyone and everything are victims of colonialism. Even Nollywood in and of itself is also a victim.

However, Nollywood is actually doing it's best to mitigate it. The ritualist in Nollywood movies always end up as the villain. They always regret it.

That returns me to my previous post. When a culture is on auto-pilot, there'll be no lessons learnt from past mistake or even current mistake made by the society as a whole. The culture then keep repeating the same mistake without learning a lesson. In fact, we're locked down!! There's no way out.

Ritual killings exists before Nollywood yes.
But Nollywood de broadcast am.

Just like porn has been available since but xvideo website broadcasts it.

But then apart from all that, how come people tend to turn a bling eye to the main cause of ritual killing - religion?

If you want ritual killings to become a thing of the past in years to come then we need to scrap religion from our society.

Come to think of it, the word 'scarifice' has a religious background which involves the termination of a life (plant or animal) to the 'source of life'

Superstition & religion is ruthlessly dealing with our development in Africa. And Africa will always remain backward if religion is given front seat before science
I disagree vehemently.A given religion believes that when you kill an infidel, you have more rewards of virgins. These create foundation of violence for kids growing up.slaughtering with knife is nothing to them.Another religion teaches love and tolerance.Absence of religion brings moral decadence.free thinkers can do anything without any feeling of guilt..since no system of law is a restrain to them.

There is always a way out. (to counteract your first subconscious confirmation).

I define a culture that is on auto-pilot, as one where children where not taught values, or not encouraged to live in authentic values, same as adults, they are not living in authentic values, but on anything or anyhow.

My definition may be very wrong or differ from yours. But from definition, there is hope, to correct it, if we choose to change it and accept corrections, by living in values that we recognize as healthy.

You have a point that there is a trap, where value is absent in all generations, so there is no one to show authentic values. so everyone is learning any values even if its harmful but since its trending, they take it as it comes.

As long as Nollywood shows and proved that money rituals/human sacrifice works and the wealth can be enjoyed for sometimes, many people are ready to take their chances with the negative side effects. Every is told that all money rituals has series negative consequences, that doesn't discourage people from still attempting it.

So Nollywood is going to take the blame

You're very correct on your definition!!

Those values are passed through LANGUAGE, EDUCATION, RELIGION and if the society finds something wrong at any point, they weed it out. Problem is that the education we have was given us by white people. Therefore, we're not studying whats important to us but according to the template laid by white people. They decide what's worth knowing and what's not worth knowing.

If we were to be in charge of education, there'll be mountain of research on jazz. There'll even be a course in school explaining jazz and it's powerlessness or at least it's negative effects and if there's anything good about it, we take only the good side and dismiss the rest as superstition. It would be officially done with!! Children would know right from school that it's not worth practicing because it's superstition. Then, that information would be passed from generation to generation. That's how a society get rid of bad side of a culture.

For details, see Dr. Amos Wilson lectures. Education, culture, black consciousness https://www.africason.com/2019/10/education-culture-black-consciousness.html

I have researched land, sea, and islands in search of the CAUSE of our problems as Africans and Dr. Amos Wilson understands best as to why we're in the condition we find ourselves, not just in Africa but black people in general.

So Nollywood is going to take the blame

A huge portion of the blame.

Plays, books and movies dictate the aspirations and directions of a society.
Ancient Roman plays are always about conquest and war, hence Rome ended up a huge empire always at war.

Sci fi US movies (Hollywood), TV series and books of the 60s and seventies were about incredible scientific feats - space travel, wireless communication, powerful computers, artificial intelligence, human like robots, etc. Today all these aspirations has been met.

Nigerian movies and stories from the 80s and 90s were about making money rituals, yahoo yahoo ( I go chop your money), run girls (prostitution) and poor girl marrying rich man. All these are the aspirations of an average Nigerian youth today.

I can't remember Nollywood promoting cultism and ritual killings when the people playing those roles are always the villain who ends up in a bad way.

Western movies also portray or even humanize witches, cultist and vampires.

You guys should stop blaming Nollywood for something that is part of your culture 1000 of years before any Nollywood producer held a camera.

I know Yoruba movies particularly promote rituals as solutions to every problem though, they need to upgrade their story writing.

Blame Yoruba movies. From time immemorial, the English Nollywood movies never for once glorified the ritualist nor have they ever ever portrayed them in a negative light. NEVER! Rather they glorify the pastor or church and the ritualist ends up in a bad way with devastating consequences.
Where are you people getting all these your jargons from.
Hollywood humanize witches, vampires etc, which should even be give a worse outcome.

It is the Yoruba movies that glorify juju and ritual killing. People should start dealing with things specifically and stop blaming the wrong people.

Again, these ritual killings have been a part of you people for a long time.

Bad endings dont discourage people as long as the glamour and enjoyments are shown to be attainable. Showing the horrors of aids victims don't discourage pornography watchers from having unprotected sex.

Hollywood doesn't glamorise witches and vampires. They don't present them as means of obtaining riches. Most of the time they are used in the setting of an ancient or fantasy world, which you cannot relate with in today's world. It is usually a reminder of when Europe or America was in the dark ages where superstition ruled people's minds.

Nollywood presents witches as being still relevant and beneficial in today's world.

I'll give you a B+ for the effort. But then don't play dumb just to score a cheap point.

Besides Nollywood IS NOT a small entity like you make it seem as it grosses over $490million annually. In fact, it is actually the world's 3rd biggest movie industry. Only coming behind Hollywood & Bollywood.

https://www.un.org/africarenewal/magazine/may-2013/nigeria%E2%80%99s-film-industry-potential-gold-mine#:~:text=The%20Nigerian%20film%20industry%2C%20also,an%20impressive%20%24590%20million%20annually.

You seem not to understand the cause & effect of the kind of contents reeled out by the Nigerian movie industry on it's consumers.

And for some reasons you completely ignored the other points I raised which make me believe you may be part of the movie industry

I am not playing dumb and it is certainly not to score any points

I actually only read the part about Nollywood and answered to that, the rest of your points I did not address, because I was making points different from them. The rest of my points essentially have nothing to do with the rest of your points

You know how dumb it actually is to blame Nollywood for something that has been happening decades before Nollywood became a thing?

Okay, I am sure a large portion of the Nigerian population is familiar with Marvel movies. How many people have decided to jump off a building because BatMan did it?

Do you also have any idea how many more people have been deterred from participating in this same ritualism BECAUSE of this same Nollywood, or have you conveniently assumed such a demographic does not exist? Did you include that in your research Candyman?

I am a movie buff, I am a sensible individual that understands where FAMILY structure and a truly moral society comes in, rather than sits down to blame the failings of the family on a movie industry that simply portrays the same things that happen in our society.

The USA has a high rate of drug abuse, does that mean Hollywood should stop making movies about the effects of drug abuse in society? Do we not see Hollywood movies about elaborate crimes that people get away with? Where are the think pieces on those?

You see, when someone says the black man does not understand how to solve their own problems without blaming the whole world for it, it will be as if they want to insult the black race, but you see this take you have, blaming Nollywood, religion and whatever else you want to blame, it is lazy and ridiculous.

Strengthen family values, work on how society views wealth first, and Nollywood will take it up from there. It is not Nollywood that will shelf ritual movies to help you, it is you that will teach your kids what values to take away from what they watch.

Me wey don dey watch Nollywood since dem born me, I never go do ritual, so, where is the logic in your argument if people like me exist?
Re: Money Rituals: In Defence Of Nollywood by thinkmoney(m): 2:02pm On Feb 01, 2022

How is Nollywood broadcasting anything?

There is no logical argument to support that Nollywood is the reason for your perceived increase in ritualism.

I have never seen anyone who committed ritual saying it is because he watched Kanayo O. Kanayo make money from the act in some Nollywood movie. Never.

The same Nollywood also shows that people who commit such heinous acts almost always end up dead or mad, or some truly tragic thing occurs to them. Do those people not watch till the end of the movie?

At what point do we begin to talk about how society glorifies wealth above all things? All the Nigerian musicians that make songs to glorify fraudsters and the likes, when do we mention their own impact? All the HypeMen in clubs that say "Dorime no be for civil servants", when do we call them out?

When do we call out those who shout down people who ask for the source of wealth? All those who say, "Una no ask where the poverty come from when he poor, why you wan know the source of the wealth?" When do we call them out?

When do we condemn the comparison syndrome that has parents putting unnecessary pressure on their kids because "...my colleague's son just bought her a car...."? When do we speak on all of that undue pressure society heaps upon young people to achieve immediate wealth?

Why do we think an entity as small as Nollywood is to blame for a virus so massive? When will we blame family structures, peer pressure, and the ACTUAL causes of ritualism?
The nollywood and media in general are all vital elements in a society that has gone bad. They share the blame. Like the guy pointed out, our value system is in the trash. We have become very materialistic subsequently selfish, insensitive, irresponsible inconsiderate and unaccountable.
The problem is irritratable. However, media which nollywood and music is part of, have unwittingly by their exposure of this thing push more people to think more of going the dark way and actually disregarding whatever nollywood later says it's the bad consequences.

I personally cannot remember the last time I watched these cheap witchcraft movies you speak of in Nollywood.

Perhaps, you should specifically point out Africa Magic and co, rather than lump every movie together. Our society glorifies materialism and worships lucre in all facets.
What we have now are consequences of a failed value system, starting from the family unit, pervading every fabric of our society. Nollywood projects ritualism, yes, but blaming it all on Nollywood is ludicrous.

And, to say that ritual killings are not getting worse and are only being accentuated by social media/Internet is a wrong conjecture. Ritual killings are actually at an ALL TIME HIGH, unlike what was, before social media/Internet came to be. It's alarming, alarms ought to be blaring by now.
