Pelumi Olajengbesi: Ambode Should Learn From Obaseki, Godfathers Can Be Unseated by Loveurneighbour: 5:16pm On Feb 02, 2022
A Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has urged former governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, to learn from Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, who defeated ‘godfatherism’ with his reelection in September 2020.

According to Olajengbesi, godfathers can be unseated as power only belongs to God and not any mortal.

The PDP House of Representatives aspirant from Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency in Osun State in 2019 was reacting to the comment of Ambode on Tuesday that youths should get their Permanent Voters’ Cards ready for the 2023 general elections.

Ambode’s Facebook post on Tuesday has since sparked fresh public discourse as to whether he wants to run for office in 2023 but he has not declared any intention.

“By breaking his political silence since he was kicked out by the godfathers of Lagos politics in the build-up to the 2019 governorship election, Ambode maybe aspiring something in 2023. Whilst he has not declared that he wants to return to office, time will tell if he wants to vie for any political office in the country.

“However, one consensus in the court of public discourse is that Ambode’s political turbulence in the 2019 governorship election showed how godfathers had monopolised the political space in Nigeria,” the lawyer said on Wednesday in a statement titled, ‘Ambode should learn from Obaseki, godfathers can be unseated’.

Ambode, who came into office in 2015 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, was kicked in 2019 after he fell out with APC leader and strong man of Lagos politics, Bola Tinubu, who had anointed Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the next governor of Lagos.

Though Ambode had gone ahead to contest the party primary, he lost to Sanwo-Olu who was staunchly backed by Tinubu.

“But Ambode chickened out unlike Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, who, in 2020, fought his former godfather, Adams Oshiomhole, and won,” Olajengbesi noted.

“Obaseki swiftly moved to the Peoples Democratic Party, clinched the ticket of the party and his returned to office, thanks to the objectivity and non-partisanship of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“If Obaseki, with the overwhelming support of the electorate, was able to dislodge and shame the godfathers of Edo politics, Ambode, with the acceptance of Lagosians, can wrestle the soul of Lagos from godfathers who have literally turned the state to their private property.

“Overall, Ambode’s political fate in 2023 will be anchored on so many things but one indispensable leadership attribute Ambode cannot afford not to have a full dose of going into 2023 is courage; courage to dare the godfathers, courage for freedom from the shadows of the self-imposed kingmakers. Godfathers can be unseated, the only power that be is of God, not any mortal.”

The PUNCH had earlier reported that a former spokesman for the PDP in Lagos, Ganiu Taofik, said Ambode has some chances to return as Lagos governor in 2023 if he joins the PDP.

Obaseki comes from a Region with the genes of boldness imbibed in their DNA. History is awash.

Ambode comes from another Part of the World historically so where servitude is highly celebrated for chieftaincy titles and erroneously misconstrued as sophistication.

IT’S IN THE YORUBA DNA SINCE AWOLOWO DAYS NOT TO GO THE SAME PATH WITH IGBO. IF YIBOOS GO LEFT, WE GO RIGHT. IF THE BIAFRANS GO DOWN, WE GO UP.

WHATEVER THE IGBO/BIAFRANS SUPPORT, WE GO AGAINST BECAUSE THEY’RE TREACHEROUS AND NEVER IN OUR INTEREST TO FOLLOW THEM SINCE INDEPENDENCE. WE WILL ALWAYS VOTE AGAINST THEIR CANDIDATES BECAUSE THEY’RE OUR SWORN ENEMY WHO HATE OUR PROGRESS AND SUCCESS.

Obi of Onitsha is a fool.

As I am 1000% sure you’re from the sad East.

Lastly, Edo no be Lagos!

If Godfatherism is having Sanwo-Olu a working governor and un-Godfatherism is having Obaseki a failure governor, then I prefer Godfatherism.

Ambode should not choke mouth for where democracy is discussed. He was ousted by a father who was never truly his father, who was never a Lagosian. The godfather of Lagos is not from Lagos. His ancestry is controversial, yet, he's the one that decides what happens and what should not happen in Lagos. Indeed, Lagis is overrated.

It's too late. He would've dared Tinubu in 2019 but he was too timid. Now it's late and risky for him to challenge Tinubu

If Ambode knew things will turn this way completely, he would have tried his luck come what may! I have never seen a well performed Governor relegated in Nigeria like Ambode. Tinubu really forked that Niga up. Even Ambassadorial position wasn't assigned to the Dude.

Talk is cheap.....Ambode had every force in Lagos against him. From state executive of his party, to his commissioners and even his own deputy governor. The state House of Assembly has already moved an impeachment motion against him. How could he have survived that? Tinubu's hold on lagosians is stronger than what most people think.

However, in Enugu, Abia, Anambra and many other states, successive governors picked their successors as Godfathers and godsons and there was no much noise. Perhaps, the indigenes of these states look away and focus more on Lagos that has been growing and favoured with better governors and leaders compared with theirs.

Ugwuanyi is picking his successor (what are his achievements in almost 8 years?), likewise Udom and the rest. Edo no be Lagos, what are the Obaseki's achievements compared with Sanwo-olu's?

APC Ozuo² don't see anything wrong with this. They will do anything to defend evil. I thought it was only northerners who supported people blindly, but my brothers from the West don fall my hand since this presidential stuff start.

You just ask them simple question, them go begin yarn like people when don use brain play 3odd.. I am beginning to have this feeling that the day people join APC, they actually have their brains removed.

Even look at Lai Mohammed and Co. The type of things they say in public is not different from what APC members here say, just like people under a spell. They go about creating fake multiple accounts to give themselves hope, even this forum indirectly supports them and that's one if the reason it is gradually dying.taje a look at frontpage posts, they hardly get to page 3 lately cheesy

Obaseki is a goat. These foolish Ronaldo and Messi fans have misconstrued the meaning of goat.
By goat I mean Obaseki is a big idiot. Now Edo state has been relegated to the background. Anenih is dead, the only person of worth we could have had this coming election is oshiomole but now he's irrelevant. The entire state is now irrelevant. The foolish oshiomole sef mumu himself by supporting Iyamu. They should all fucck off

Comedy!

Comparing Oshiomole to Tinubu!

Ambode would be displace from his very own Epe LGA if he tries it.

People fail to study Tinubu and just criticize the man. The man has built an informidable political empire.

His political reach and powers are not in his personality, he has invested in people who are rooted in his values. He just flicks his fingers and the programme runs!
