A former Senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District, Ben Murray-Bruce, has lamented that young people now believe that money rituals can make them rich.

This is as he advised government to build tech hubs so that young people can make use of their knowledge of technology for productive ventures.

Sharing on Twitter, Ben Bruce called for a return to traditional family values, adding that family is where moral instructions are instilled in children.

His words come days after four teenagers were arrested in Ogun State for beheading a young lady for money ritual purposes.

The Senator said, “What has suddenly gone wrong with young people who now believe that rituals involving human blood will make them rich?

“So many Nigerians go missing daily and while some are never found, some are found dead with body parts missing.

“We must work to stop this trend. We must return to our traditional family values where charity begins at home. The family remains where the teaching of ethics begins. This is where moral instructions are embedded in children. This is where discipline and good morals are instilled in children regardless of their religion.



“The government must do more to encourage young people to use their knowledge of technology for productive ventures.

“With this, I am calling on the government to establish tech hubs and tech sharks to train young people in information and digital skills aimed at making Nigeria and the world a better place.

“We must not accept the narrative that poverty, hunger and unemployment get young people into ritual killings to get rich quick.

“Our politicians and elite must show restraint in the way they flaunt their wealth both publicly and on social media.

“The Nigerian police and other security agencies should also deploy intelligence and apprehend the perpetrators of these acts and bring them to justice while our worship centres must focus more on encouraging young people to embrace hard work, diligence and patience.”

Buhari is tone deaf. The man is totally removed from reality. Under any other serious administration, actions would have been taken to curtail the issue of cultism. But this administration has no clue of what to do. As a result, we are now seeing a situation where cultists are joining and enrolling into the security agencies. They're becoming governors and house speakers. Every single day, someone is killed because of cult related activities, yet no single bold effort from the central government to curtail the menace. Don't even know if Buhari considers this a serious issue. Obviously, life is worthless under this regime..

We all assumed Northerners were the junkies until the media beamed its searchlight on mkpurummiri, exposing the clandestine consumption of hard drugs in South east. I wish mainstream Newspaper organizations would set up their branches in the South east sooner than later.

I like what Bruce said that we should return to the traditional way, yeah but what to do when the young boys have tasted the rich life, and they can't go back any more is to do the impossible to continue in that path of richess even if is to wipe their blood linage yeah it happens, so the government are busy working for themself rather than for the country which they vote and elect them for, or they fix them self there, well who cares, and they don't want to make the youth life great they just want to be greedy, and looting the future of Nigeria.. well their children are busy enjoying ..

Your ubiquitous media NEVER "beamed any imaginary searchlight on mkpurummiri". That one is a figment of your own imagination. Nothing was hidden from anybody because nobody was competing with you.. The people in the East, noticed a new trend at it's infancy and took a collective action to squash it. And they recorded great success as a result. That was it. Instead of praying for accomplices from other regions to share your shame with, you can borrow a leaf from this sort of tactics to tackle the ritual killing pandemic going on in the west. That's one way to solve this problem. Living in denial will only worsen things..

It's not a coincidence that FG has mooted building about 12 psychiatric homes across South east. The culture of mkpurummiri is deep rooted much as it has a relationship with the spate of killings and cannibalism that is only peculiar to the southeast. As with other epidemic of baby factory, kidnapping, blood money ritualism, prostitution and child trafficking, the Southeast would need the help of the media to curb these uniquely difficult trends that has become a culture among the easterners.
