Doctors Say There Is No Cure!!! by bigpicture001: 2:33pm On Feb 06, 2022
My younger sis has a very rare medical condition.... Doctors said it has no cure..

It about her throat, she is asked by the doctor to eat always, she eats between 10-15x daily, yet sh is very slim

Two years ago, she. Noticed and complain to us that whenever she finish eating, the food after like 3min coms back to her throat. At first we didn't take it very seriously till it continued non stop. We took her to a specialist doc, when it became much often.. and after much examination, it was diagnosed that the lower muscle covering of her oesophagus has slackens..

According to the doc. The elastic muscle is pushed open when food is passing through and Loses by itself to dissallow the food from coming back up.... In her case the doc said, hers has slackens and it's now always open so food passes down easily and coms up easily

Again he instructed her to eat very small amount of food always I stead to. Eat so. Many times.. his reason is that all food that enters her mouth must completely digest before she takes in another one because if she takes more than necessary at a time, it will temporarily need to store in wait somewhere before it goes in turn for digestion, hence allowing the food to bounce back up and to her throat again..

He warmed that if she frequently has food in her throat that chemicals in the the food will eventually damage her oeasophaguz and damage her voice

Abeg which kind wahala be this, he said there is no cure for it

I’m perturbed by this. Pls, see another specialist. She might need a feeding tube.

What she has is GERD-Gastroesophageal reflux disease. A digestive disease in which stomach acid or bile irritates the food pipe lining. it's related to Ulcer. Your sister needs a change of lifestyle along with medications. You can read this https://blog.cribmd.com/ulcer-diet-the-best-nigerian-foods-to-eat-and-what-to-avoid/
And she can have an online session with a doctor here https://cribmd.com/

Her symptoms point at gastrointesinal disease (GERD), the disease is quite common, but it's often unrecognised/misunderstood. As her stomach acid persistently flows back up into her mouth through her oesophagus, the tissue lining in her oesophagus is getting battered regularly with stomach acid till the tissue eventually becomes damaged.

This can lead to difficulty in swallowing, or an open sore(ulcer) in her digestive tract. She should also avoid the following foods and beverages : fried foods, orange juice, tomato, pepper, alcohol. It's not surprising that she's becoming underweight after developing GERD because it limits food consumption or cause loss of appetite.

Eating smaller portions of foods at mealtime and chewing thoroughly before swallowing help to control symptoms. Also, she should practice eating her dinner 3 hours before bedtime so as to let the acid in your stomach go down well.

NB : Most antacids are for quick and temporary results. However, overuse of some antacids can cause side effects, such as diarrhea or sometimes kidney problems. So she needs to be careful here.

Its proper treatment is targeted at reducing the relaxation of the lower oesophageal sphinter which allows the acid backwash, and also healing the the damaged oesophagus tissue.

Does her symptoms come with a burning sensation in her chest, usually after eating, which might be worse at night? Is she having problem swallowing?
