Fintechs lavish money on people moving from banks because they believe they have the experience. You can always go back to the banking industry and even get grade 2-3 steps higher. A feat that might not have been possible if he stayed in the bank for the same number of years. 5 Likes 1 Share |

odutolu1:Bank Job is the better option. Most Fintechs DO NOT stand the test of time due to technological advancements coupled with unfavorable legislations. |

Startups are bound to fail. There is no job security as you may be sacked at anytime due to high expectations especially if you are into sales and marketing. Startups such as fintechs also have stages of development. You may be suited to the current stage, but the startup is more likely to adjust its staff capacity, including retrenchment to make way for employees more suitable for their next stage of growth. My advice is look at the difference between the bank pay and the proposed pay of the fintech for that role. If it is negligible, stay back in the bank. If huge in favour of the fintech, leave. If the fintech offers stock option, grab it too and quit. Fundamentally, look at the age of the startup. If it is past 2 years or 3, then it can be considered relatively stable. If not, you may be part of an experiment that may fail. Be acutely sharp like an Eagle. Last last, you can only make yourself rich. Not even the fintech and the bank can do that for you. 4 Likes |

Please if it is a start-up FINTEC, biko, remain where you are now. The rate of mortality of start-ups, including fintecs in Nigeria is alarming. Don't be moved by the initial attractive pay. Once they are not able to scale through the difficult, competitive and challenging business terrain of Nigeria, they will just collapse. I will advise you remain with the commercial bank, except if you are a contract staff with the commercial bank, you may give the fintec company a chance, otherwise, maintain. |

odutolu1: We agree, there's no job security in the banking industry. But is there a future in such fintech given many countries stand on it? The answer is obvious. |

JosephXavier: Lol! Fintechs are basically banks on a budget. They squeeze life out of their staff. If you are in the industry, you'd know of what happened with a Piggy top shot that just "got up and quit". No waiting job, nothing in the pipeline. Just got fed up |

All depends on his skills and confidence to be able to find yet another job in case the fintech fails. And on his financial margin of maneuver: With a family to provide for and a mortgage to service you can‘t take the same level of risk as a solo person. |

You were vague in the bank job, is the bank job a Tech job or requires specialization. But I'll go with Fintech because that's a good space so def alot of jobs to get after this experience vs working in a bank, now if the bank role was something Technical like Oracle specialist or Technician that requires advanced skill yeah but if it is a branch level role, just go for the FinTech. 1 Like |
