Nothing new bro.....train riding tru market or crowded places are huge sight to watch n behold.....
What matters is for there to be a pre information, alarm or signal 20mins before time as the train approaches!

Train tracks right in the midst of people, smh. An emergency disaster waiting to happen. There are no City Planners in Nigeria, abi?

Rather, people around train tracks.

It is not the fault of the train tracks. Many of those tracks have been there for decades. But I don't seem to understand why they attract sellers, especially.

Even with barricades, it is still a disaster waiting to happen if you cluster around active tracks.

If a train derails, will barricades be able to stop it from running into these ignorant people?

It's a normal stuffs for those that ply that route. When there's no train in sight, the tracks are more or less a market place with people buying and selling without caring about the potential danger they're in. Once a train is approaching, you'll see them packing all the goods neatly displayed and within a minute all the buyers, sellers and passers by would have cleared from the tracks. It doesn't take more than 2 minutes after the train goes before the buying and selling resumes again.

What is really wrong with us, the led and the leaders, is it that we can't conform to modern days practice and emulate how developed countries do some of their things. Why would a government allow market and trading to be sited around and near rail tracks, it just doesn't look descent at all and the risk it pose to the traders, must we remain backward forever.

Don’t blame the Govt for this at all. Nigerians are a very awkward and defiant set of people. Just few weeks ago at Ikotun, a truck failed brakes and killed a few road side traders….then after a few minutes the other traders that were alive returned to the same spot to sell their wares. You think many. Iberians have brains but you’re in for a shocker! Dem no get brain at all…..empty coconuts!
Only in Nigeria traders feel that they have to be on the road to be able to sell their wares. Authorities keep chasing them away but they never leave. Roadside trading is among the major causes of traffic jams in cities like lagos. We keep building shopping malls and markets beside the road and most of them don’t have parking lots.
Those that have shops always try to build illegal extensions towards the road to impede traffic and you wonder if we’re ever going to change.

It is the fault of those selling close to the tracks.

It is like that in India as well.

And people die like chickens.

Yes.. but there are law enforcement officers that should make sure that no one sells around that area...

Defaulters should be made to pay a heavy fine.. and it will in turn generate revenue to the government..

There is a fence made of iron guaze on both sides of that train tracks, the only place left is for people to cross the tracks, but trust our people especially recalcitrant beasterners force their way to display their wares even on the train tracks and rushing to pack by the side whenever they hear the horns of an upcoming train.. Its even worse at oshodi under bridge

I think you mean "people building right next to train tracks"

The market met the tracks there, it's the market that shouldn't be there.

But there should have been some barricade..
or maybe the city council have not noticed the risk involved in that because no deaths has been recorded? shocked
Good suggestion. I was an onlooker when a train crushed a guy the first time I visited Lagos.

Is this still going on or is it an old video? Our shop was just close to that red city hotel building back then.
