One person has been recovered dead from the ruins of the building which collapsed in the Yaba area of Lagos State on Saturday.

The PUNCH had reported that a three-storey building on Akanbi Crescent, close to the University of Lagos, which was still under construction had collapsed.

About an hour after the collapse, our correspondent reports that first responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency arrived at the scene to begin rescue operations.

So far, it is still unclear the number of people trapped in the rubble of the collapsed building.

Corruption.

Are they not all results of a corrupt and failed system?
Why would a building owner be able to cut corners with substandard materials, unqualified workmen, and unapproved building plans?

We try to be "smart" not knowing we're either smarting ourselves to the grave or endangering the lives of others.

Building codes and regulations are implemented for a damn reason.

The other day, we were marveling at the construction of a 93 floor storey building in the US, but here, we can't get a few floors right because we are "smart".

only few materials things are original in Nigeria, there are many fake people too.
