Russia's first objective has already been achieved: Ukraine will NEVER be allowed to join NATO as the country is fully destabilized (Crimea: GONE; Donbass Region: under Russian backed separatists' control). Hell, the west has even eased Russia's work by doing the whole work through the useless hysteria that has seen massive flight of investments out of Ukraine and a damage of the Ukrainian economy. Even the Ukrainians themselves know this, that's why they've been telling the Americans to tone it down. The Russians have clearly won this bout.

They lost Crimea some years ago not this year. Russia bullied them and took over Crimea, which is what US and the West are trying to prevent from reoccurring.

Ukraine is indirectly a NATO member that's why NATO were heavily mobilizing for them even without them being full member. NATO was pumping in weapon into Ukraine and deploying soldiers and armory in neighboring countries waiting for a Russian strike.
