Samsung Galaxy S22 Unpacked: What Was Announced, and Everything Else To Know

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series and the Galaxy Tab S8 series - -  new, premium devices unpacked to "break the rules."

Several reports pointed to what Samsung would bring to 2022's first Unpacked event: from design upgrades to possible price changes, to the likelihood of a Galaxy S phone that'll be identical to last year's S21…with enthusiasts expecting more Note-like features on the S22 Ultra.

Well, finally… Samsung, on February 9th, announced new devices that "break the rules"; and to the delight of many, the unveiled products  --  the Galaxy S22 range, alongside the Galaxy S8 tablets  --  made many speculated features come true.

The Galaxy S22 series
At Wednesday's Unpacked event, the Korean phone maker released three smartphone models: the Galaxy S22, the Galaxy S22 Plus, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The smartphones also feature the industry's first 4nm processor…."

Noteworthy is the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which, in design, features a combo of the Galaxy S and the now-discontinued Galaxy Note. The S22 Ultra has square edges and includes a Stylus Pen, and should appease users who haven't seen any new Galaxy Note release since 2020.

Samsung also showed off the standard Galaxy S22 model, which represents a slight improvement on last year's base Galaxy S21. And from what was unveiled last Wednesday, the larger S22 Plus shares similarities with 2021's S21 Plus.

What's more, Samsung now offers four years of OS upgrade, and five years of security updates, to their most recent and future Galaxy tablets and phones. Buyers now have a longer period to relish the latest OS and security updates without needing to change their devices. Meanwhile, for environmental sustainability, the company now repurposes discarded fishing nets as part of the materials used in making Galaxy products, the Galaxy S22 and Tab S8 series being first partakers.

Also unveiled last Wednesday was the 2022 Galaxy tablet lineup: the Galaxy Tab S8, Tab S8 Plus, and Tab S8 Ultra.

Among the three tablets, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is topmost, featuring a large 14.6-inch AMOLED screen that's engineered to give a refresh rate of up to 120 Hertz.

Also, the tablet's notch houses two 12-megapixel front cameras. Samsung says the device also has up to 16GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. Like older generations, it supports the S-Pen but comes with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 processor, plus the Adreno 730 GPU.

For what it's worth, Samsung's Android-based tablets take the cake as some of the best when compared to their competition on the market.

Price, color, and availability
- Galaxy S22 series: Though preorders are ongoing, the S22 series will be purchasable in stores starting February 25. Price-wise, the standard Galaxy S22 starts at $799.99, the Galaxy S22 Plus at $999.99, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra at $1,099.99. For storage, the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus are available in 128GB and 256GB (with 8GB of RAM); the Galaxy S22 Ultra includes options for 512GB and 1TB (with up to 12GB of RAM). You can find the S22 and S22 Plus in phantom black, phantom white, green, and pink gold. The higher S22 Ultra comes in phantom black, phantom white, green, and burgundy.

- Galaxy Tab S8 series: Pre-ordering the new Galaxy tablets started February 10th, but they'll be available in stores on February 25th. The price for the Tab S8 starts at $699.99, the Tab S8 Plus at $899.99, and the Tab S8 Ultra at $1,099.99. You can get the Tab S8 and Tab S8 Plus in graphite, silver, or pink gold colors. The Tab S8 Ultra comes just in one color  - -graphite.
