The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Ibrahim Pantami has added the title of ‘Professor’ to his name.

Checks by The Nation show that Pantami made the change on his verified Facebook page.

But he made the changes on his Facebook page on January 16, 2022.

The Nation also observed that on several awards and fliers posted on the page, the title of ‘Professor’ had since been added to his name.

All of these developments appear subtle reactions to the recent verdict passed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on his appointment as a Professor of Cyber security by the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO).

ASUU describe his professorship as faulty and illegal.

The Nation reports Pantami’s elevation has continued to generate heated controversy.

ASUU said it would sanction all its members who may have taken part in the processes, saying such will serve as deterrence to others.

In September 2021, Pantami was among seven academics elevated by the council of FUTO to the position of professorship at the council’s 186th meeting.

The issue is, does a university senate reserves the right to award professorship if proper recommendations are made and minimum requirements met? Well, the case is currently in court. Let the court decide.

One fact I know is that apart from his extreme religious views, Pantami is more cerebral than some fellows who are called professors in our universities.

Why did FUTO Owerri award him such title in the first place?
That's how they go about awarding just any politician with doctorate degrees and you see incompetent mofos answering "Dr", "Prof" etc.

It's safe to assume that anyone can buy doctorate degree with money in schools like FUTO which is a big slap on our educational system and a big insult to those who earned their doctorate degrees on merit.

Why is the black man so obsessed with titles?? I have met distinguished professors from Ivy League schools that introduced themselves with just their names. This row between ASUU, FUTO & Pantami is besides the point, which simply is why a man who is openly in support of the major problem of the administration he serves still in that same administration?? Whatever appendage he prefixes to his name doesn’t change the fact that he is a documented terrorist sympathizer.
