1.By the time GEJ took over, not only was oil selling that high, there was a 'big' savings of $60 billion(Big in quote. )

2.Even then, the money was not enough. Nigeria is a poor nation. We did not earn enough from oil under GEJ, and it was worse under Buhari

3.Buhari in 2015, inherited a situaiton where we were getting worse. He did nothing about diversificaiton and so forth. Instead, he kept us on oil...meaning we got into more debt.

4.So, now oil is going up, we got to pay the debt. And we have to pay subsides cost (N3 trillion and rising)

5.Nigeria should vote for a leader who won't tie our budget to oil prices.

APC government will say the high price is not a blessing to the country because it means more money will be alloted to subsidize the product for Nigerians since we still import the finished/refined crude.

Whereas at low price, they'd say the country isn't making much from crude due to the plummeted price of oil at the OPEC market.

Either way, they'll always have something to complain about. Losers are never short of excuses

The truth is, that is how sane countries run their societies.

Dip in oil prices means dip in revenue...so revenue has to be found..and VAT is one of the ways.

Also, increase in oil prices, means that the cost of producing fuel increases. The only way you can reduce prices in that circumstance is not pay the people who extract the crude any money...then you can have petrol at N40...

In the cost of one liter of petrol is the refining, transport, and marketing cost. Here in Nigeria, we sell petrol below the actual cost of the thing.

It costs N163 at the pump...something we import at N282 per liter. And it won't cost less than N300 if we refine at home. Yet we are going to spend N3 trillion and counting...money that could have gotten us one refinery at least...keeping fuel at N163 this year. We would need more to get to the N40 some Buhari supporters want it at.

Let's be realistic...either we waste money on subsides, or we let it go, and have money for other things.
