You now want to place that same NATO next to Russia. Why are you people never objective . USA invaded Iraq looking for weapons of mass destruction. Russia invaded Ukraine looking for its own weapon of mass destruction( NATO) . Both are the same. Obama invaded Libya saying gaddaffi was killing innocent people that were separitist. Russia invaded Ukraine supporting separatist in eastern Ukraine. Same thing. The precedence was set by the united states'. You want Russia to respect sovereignty of Ukraine to JOIN NATO.... The same NATO that don't respect sovereignty when they want to invade. When NATO invaded Syria, did they respect the sovereignty? So Russia should allow Ukraine to join NATO because they are a sovereign nation so that when NATO is fully grounded in Ukraine, they can invade Russia at the slightest pretext. I only pity Ukrainians. They are being pushed by your likes to needless deaths. Sign you won't join NATO for five years... renew it every five years in guarantee for peace. America supported Afghanistan against Russian invasion.... years later, America itself invaded Afghanistan. Who suffers constantly? Afghanistan. The same America that is supporting Ukraine today can invade it tommorrow.. Ukraine should wake up. Nobody can help them to fight Russians including nairaland warriors like you

What is the difference between what
Israel is doing to Palestine and what Russia is doing to Ukraine

It's just a simple mathematics, Russian bombing Ukraine is a message to other countries who fold their hand while Israel is killing Palestine

And most of it is happening around the world
China, Hong Kong, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan and many more

These issues should have being curbed before today Russia is sending message to America on the issue of Israel and Palestine

Putin is a lair he never admitted to invading Ukraine.

Putin is bullying smaller countries around him in the quest of becoming an Emperor.

If NATO is a threat to him why not invade Poland or Lithuania who is already a NATO member and already have both conventional and nuclear weapons already in his door steps. Why is he at peace with them.

He signed along US to guarantee Ukraine's security and sovereignty and they gave up their nuclear weapons

What's happening today between Russia and Ukraine didn't start today. A little knowledge of the past will help you in no small way to understand the present so you could hazard a guess for the future.

First of, Ukraine existed before Russia. But that's by the way.

However, to understand the Plan B of Russia since 2014, it is important we go a little back in time.

When Russia conquered Ukraine and forced it into the USSR, it started a very obnoxious policy known as Russification.

As part of the Russification policy, it banned the use and study of the Ukrainian language, and people of Ukraine were forced to convert to the Russian Orthodox faith instead of their Eastern Orthodox church.

In the early 1930s, to force peasants to join collective farms, Soviet leader Joseph Stalin orchestrated a famine that resulted in the starvation and death of millions of Ukrainians.

A policy with an underlying aim of depopulation, having reduced their population through artificially created famine Stalin imported large number of Russians most of whom couldn't speak Ukrainian and with no known ties to the region—to help repopulate eastern Ukraine. That was how the ethnic Russians in Ukraine were birthed. And the motive then is what is playing out now.

When Ukraine's Moscow-friendly president was driven from office by mass protests in February 2014, Russia responded by annexing Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula. It then threw its weight behind an insurgency in the mostly Russian-speaking eastern Ukraine region known as Donbas. The Donbas region has always been pro-Russia for obvious reasons.

The so called breakaway regions that Russia has been funding since 2014 to start civil war in Ukraine were artificially created through the Russification policy and repopulation of Ukraine after the depopulation using famine as weapon.

What is playing out is not just about joining NATO, Russia has never recognised the independence of Ukraine. Putin treats the sovereignty of Ukraine with contempt. And it didn't start with Putin. Lenin did same, Stalin took it to another level. Goberchev abhorred it and when Yeltsin took it lightly, he kitchen cabinet fought him.

Russia doesn't care about the three Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania declaring independence, but as soon as Ukraine held a referendum in 1991, all hell was let loose. It didn't start today.

The major problem is about Russia's inability to deal with its past, the need to recognise that it is no more an imperial power and this is 2022. Even though it is hiding behind the finger of NATO expansion ( a legitimate claim), it wants more than it is saying.

And it is ready to push the world into a very avoidable conflict. Putin can do anything to save face. The world should manage him properly.

And part of that management is that Ukraine should remain a neutral country. They should bury every thought of joining NATO. That's the most potent weapon to de-escalate tensions and postpone this war for now. Because we will return here again...same way it has been happening since 12th Century AD.
