Hey Femi are you a clearing agent or you are 3rd party agent?
I like to have the information, so as to put this into considerations when shipping.
i was just told today as well, that 10 years old vehicle are now allowed into nigeria, used to think it was just 8 years and newer, is that real?
Re: Clearing Cost In Nija by adexfem(m): 12:31pm On Aug 07, 2007
I am a Licensed custom clearing agent not a third party. It's real, cars older than 8yrs are not allowed through the shores of Nigeria except buses.

Re: Clearing Cost In Nija by adexfem(m): 12:57pm On Aug 13, 2007
@shey

You can bring in right hand vehicles but you have to convert them to left hand drive before you start using in Nigeria.
Re: Clearing Cost In Nija by mnwankwo(m): 3:09pm On Aug 13, 2007
Who will do the conversion. A car should be left the way it was designed. Converting RHD to LHD is not recommended. Please bring in LHD vehicles to Naija. If you have RHD, send it to UK or Japan.
Re: Clearing Cost In Nija by shey(m): 10:58am On Aug 14, 2007
@adexfem

I will like to be guided by the Gurus in the house. I have a container with 3 cars and some furniture and computer wares coming in through Naija Lagos Port from America. The cars all meet the 8 yrs rule.

How will my import duty be assessed and how do i go about clearing the container? Will the furniture and computer wares be assessed too? Do i have to offload in the port? If not, who will be responsible for return of the container - the shipping company?

I am grateful for responses!

@ shey
Ok, the left hand drive can be cleared.No wahala. Off course you cant compare the converted ones with the original ones.I know the people that can do it very well.Except you know about it, you can't distinguish converted cars from the normal ones.
Re: Clearing Cost In Nija by adexfem(m): 1:57pm On Aug 14, 2007
@ Aporo

I can help you clear your container. The computers and the furniture will be examined by the customs, they will be regarded as your personal effects.(IMPORTATION OF FURNITURES HAS BEEN BANNED BY NIGERIAN GOVT.) No problem with the cars and the computers.
I can carry the container to what ever destination you want to offload and return it back to the shipping company that owns it. Except if it is yours.
Re: Clearing Cost In Nija by mnwankwo(m): 2:04pm On Aug 14, 2007
Adexfam,

Many of those converted vehicles are responsible for a lot auto accidents in Nigeria. In addition, those who do the conversion and sell it as LHD should tell potential buyers that the vehicles were converted. I am not aware that they do so.
Re: Clearing Cost In Nija by Aporo: 3:31pm On Aug 14, 2007
@Adexfem

So how much will it cost me to clear the container with three cars? Will this be the 20ft container?

Will the container be assessed as whole or it will be assessed based on model of the cars in it?

How are personal effects assessed at the ports?

Re: Clearing Cost In Nija by adexfem(m): 2:30pm On Aug 15, 2007
@Lawyerchap

You didn't state your mode of transporting the cars.Is it by container or roll-roll? I will charge you ----- for the BMW 330i 2003,while the Golf GTi 2007 will cost you--------- , if you are using roll-roll.
The prices are negotiable.If you are in Lagos i suggest we see one on one so that we can discuss at length.

Thanks
Re: Clearing Cost In Nija by lawyerchap(m): 11:42am On Aug 21, 2007
@Adexfem
What if i am using a container? What would it cost? I really don't know yet how the person shipping the cars intends to ship them. Is roll-roll safe? I heard cars shipped that way are usually vandalised. Is this true? I am in Lagos but i would like for the cars to be shipped first before we begin to talk one on one. It's so i don't waste your time talking and the cars are eventually not shipped as soon as i envisage. Hope you don't mind. But please let me know the answers to my enquiries. It would enable me advise my contact accordingly. Thanks man.
Re: Clearing Cost In Nija by adexfem(m): 10:01pm On Aug 21, 2007
Lawyerchap,

Using a container will be more expensive<if you consider the cost of shipping and clearing> but it is safer.If you are using roll-roll, as soon as the cars arrive Lagos, i will assign security men inside the port that will secure the cars until they are finally cleared out of the port.I prefer using container because it is safer.

This topic is almost three years, the rule has changed its now 10years and no more 8years.Meanwhile buses,pick ups, trucks and carterpillers are not affected by this rule.

So can even ship a 98 siena.
