For Africa To Progress, We Must Let Go Of The Berlin Maps. by BSsniffer: 11:54pm On Feb 28, 2022
The major (modern) problem with africa started with the Berlin conference and the map drawing by europeans, ethnic groups were separated and joined with other ethnic groups that share no common language or ideology with them...

From the English to the Germans, every ethnic group in Europe has their representing nation and no group is forced into nationhood with another group, why then should a Yoruba man like me share a nation with an Igbo or a fulani or vice versa.....it honestly cannot and won't work for anyone, sub Saharan Africa will not progress untill every ethnic nation is recognized and given the right to their future. It's either we restructure as a nation or have a referendum and each ethnic group stays on their own. The hausa/fulani wil succeed as if they have their own nation of theirs, same as the yorubas, igbos, Benin kingdom, ijaws, efiks and other groups.

The current structures in Africa isn't currently paying anyone and that's because they're largely colonial structures not meant to pay us but pay the westerners....if you disagree with my points kindly state a better solution.
Thanks

The problem is how do you make those who are benefiting from the broken system see that it won't pay them or their unborn kids in the long run, as you may have noticed africans aren't really known to be forward thinkers, just immediate gratification and inability to dialogue.

But sadly African and Nigerians in particular has chosen this Berlin boundaries as the original boundaries from God and any other adjustment to Aboriginal boundaries is regarded as creating artificial boundaries in Africa ,one of the most stupid thing I have heard from a Nigerian scholars saying that god created Nigeria , really it better to be ignorant that to be half educated.

Not surprised....black American slaves once believed that slavery was "God's" will for their lives, black slave owners would empathize parts of the Bible where it talked about the obedient servant.....95% of Africans are conditioned to reason like slaves, it takes lots of reading to desensitize one's self..... unfortunately must Africans don't read.

It's hard but possible, it starts with sensible ones lobbying our politicians and law makers, plus a majority of educated Nigerians unfortunately don't have voters cards, yet we complain about being ruled by the uneducated. Engaging the political process is important as we can vote in law makers who would push our interest like a referendum or restructuring.

And the slavery is still on ,on an advance stage which is the slavery of the mind , African don't have the mind of there own ,in school they are taught to remember only ,just take a look how serious Nigerians are on Caucasian crises , opening thread after thread about two white folks ,but non of this negros have taken this seriousness on negros against negros from West to east to the South , really Africa can never recover .

They created towers of Babel called countries and we that are imprisoned are insisting on keeping our chains.

Some ethnic groups have gone so dependent on others that they are afraid of independence!

I totally agree with the OP. We cannot make any meaningful progress until we take our destinies into our hands and decide which ethnic nationalities we would like to share a country with and redraw the maps that the european thieves, I mean colonizers who never meant well for us had drawn without our input or opinion. If only we Africans can speak with one voice, we for don go far as a people. Division and self hate is what is holding us back.

Its the only way!

We need to organize ourselves according to our nationalities so that the variables reduces and we can now focus on real challenges vs mutual suspicions

every african country's plan is to not divide. this is where all their energy goes towards. Take away that issue by allowing them to divide and they will move on to the next phase.

I don't think u know what u are saying. Nigeria has over 200 ethnic groups, so how will ur special "map" work Even the Yoruba u are claiming are not homogenous. Our histories are all intertwined and separation is impossible. Forget Biafra noisemakers.

You can make your point without quoting and cancelling out my post.....not all tribes are totally homogeneous and same goes for the Yoruba's.......we share 95% the same language, similar values and customs. But we have absolutely less than 5% similarity with igbos, hausa/fulani or any group across the Niger..... similarities may exist with our close neighbors like benins and nupes but it's purely a case of geographically factor as both tribes have obviously distinct cultures....and anyway a referendum of the nigerian people should be the deciding factor, let nigerians actually decide how nigeria should be structured. Plus it doesn't matter how many ethnic groups are in Nigeria but the need for equal represention of each of those groups.

You are saying two opposite things. Referendum doesn't solve anything, it just creates more confusion. And besides Nigeria has more than enough representation. You have almost 600 representatives and ministers covering 36 states, every appointment and even employment in nigeria is based on equal representation of all the regions and states. Every state has lovely govt and house of assembly representing them. All commissioners of FGN agencies are picked based on equal representation. Representation is not or problem, moral decadence, greed and corruption are the problem.

Referendum only creates confusion for those who are ok with the rotten system, and when I mean representation I mean representation for all ethnic and sub ethnic groups and not representation made out of state creation in abuja, it also means equal representation either you're a majority tribe or a minority tribe. If the system you claim fully represents all parts of Nigeria we won't be having issues about the region a president is coming from. And "moral decadence, greed and corruption" are results or symptoms of a larger problem which is the system or current structure that gives way to those symptoms..... honestly speaking, it takes only common sense to understand this.

You that is complaining about president, which president did your region unanimously present that was rejected Politics is a game of numbers. If u don't have the numbers then u lobby with those who have. But when u keep hating and opposing everybody then later cry that they didn't support u, u only have yourself to blame.

the entire Africa needs to be completely restructured and New nations should be formed strictly on ethnic homogeneity only... this present Africa setup can never develop until we have majority ethnic homogeneous nations..

That's ridiculous. You'd have nearly 4,000 countries in Africa with that arrangement.

This tendency to SMALLNESS is what led to African vulnerability to slavery and colonisation, as these states were too small on their own to resist powerful western invaders, who simply used divide and rule tactics to entrench their dominance. So returning to those small, unviable ethnic based systems is not the solution. Africans need to learnt to live in multi-ethnic nations like their ancient forbears did, from Nubia to Egypt to the Mali and Ghana empires.

no.. minority tribes that are compatible with each other will form their own countries..
majority tribes like Yoruba, igbo, Hausa, Fulani, Akan, etc should form their own countries, as their respective population are more than some European countries

You are right and It was easy for them to stay together because their language sounded similar.
Same for almost all European countries.
Libya have many different cultures and languages but Gadaffi united them to be good one country before the Europeans destroyed Libya.
But Africans case was different because it was imposed by colonial authorities who are not Africans.
During the time of Benin empire or Yoruba empire, they only place troops in a town, that have similar language with Yoruba empire which made it easy to expand their empire influence.

Remaking the maps of Africa would defeat the goal because it would favor more European's interference . They will play one side against another . They did it in Biafra Nigeria ; in Katanga , Congo. They are now trying in Togo and Ghana where issues are more complicated ( spanning back to the time when Nkrumah and J.Olympio were in power). We know what is going in Cameroon, next door to Nigeria.

Let Me Use This Medium Express My Intellectual Sense, Before African Came To Existence Settle People Were Around. But The Question Is, Who Helped Africans Who Were Around When Africa Came To Existence To Draw The African Map? Basically, I See African Continent As One Of The Continent That Is Not Ready To Be Developed. And That Gives The White People Ideological Sense To Keep On Downgrading Africa.
