It was only recently developed 2014 though when visa and mastercard iniitially threatened to pull out as ru/ukraine tensions built up.so it will take a while to get more countries and ecommerce sites outside russia to be accepting and displaying mir card options.

I use my mir atm supported by the mir network with servers in russia, to make purchases on ecommerce site Aliexpress.
War or no war,,ecommerce american amazon accepts only payments from american company visa and mastercard only. The mir works on POS in russia and those fourteen countries. Sha, HP site in russia for example, accepts mir. HP.ru or sth like that. Samsung site or Apple site.ru accepts the mir .(apple wan run now limit sales )
Ford,Toyota cars.ru/ru outlets accepts mir on their sites. H& M.ru , Nike.ru and other western clothing outlets.ru accepts the mir.It is mandatory for western outlets tailored for ru market to accept mir cards on their sites or they will have no business or branch office in the territory to begin with.

Most sites looking to penetrate the russian market will have no option than to includr mir in their sites unlike before.

To deposit rubles to buy crypto tagged in dollars for russian users, rubles deposit were before now accepted from visa atms and or mastercard but not mir.
Its just website redesign and app modification to make provision for mir card field for russian market should visa and mastercard choose not to return

P.S if tomorrow l am travelling to usa or australia from russia for example, lt is advisable to go to the bank to convert rubles to dollars first. And travel with some dollars cash in hand to open a usa bank account or australian bank account on arriving. Converting rubles to dollars at the bank's rate for the day can also be done by anyone at any time on bank website/app by logging in. Its not like naija system that they hoard dollars.

@the almighty internationaally accepted visa /mastercard recognised globally in all 195 countries of the world,,,,Even when a friend of mine left nigeria to russia with Nigerian bank VISA atm and Nigerian bank Mastercard ATM, it never worked on any russian atm accepting visa or mastercard l guess its because it was not VISA atm from a naija bank dollar/domicillary account but ordinary naira account.
So l guess all these visa/mastercard noise is mainly for online transactions.
