Google has finally unveiled Google+, the company’s top secret social layer that turns all of Google into one giant social network.

Google+, which begins rolling out a very limited field test on Tuesday, is the culmination of a year-long project led by Google Senior Vice President of Social Vic Gundotra. The project, which has been delayed several times, is — without doubt — Google’s answer to Facebook.

The search giant’s new social project will be omnipresent on every Google product, thanks to a complete redesign of the Google navigation bar. The familiar gray bar at the top of every Google page will turn black, and come with several new options for accessing your Google+ profile, viewing notifications and instantly sharing content at any time. The notification system is similar to how Facebook handles notifications, complete with a red number that increases with each additional notice.

At its core, Google+ is a social network. The first thing users are introduced to when they visit Google+ is the Stream. It’s much like the Facebook News Feed, allowing users to share photos, videos, links or their location with friends.

They want to colonize the internet. E no go work.

they might be good but i doubt if they will be able to really facebook. social networking is the youthful population and face book already got them.

When Facebook came we didnt think ex-myspacers and ex-hi5'ers would ever dump everything and make a full switch to facebook.
Bottom line, success is not absolute and we are bound by what we know. We can only move forward if we are ready to break the  boundaries.

Remember, Google came to meet Yahoo. So its not solely about who is at the top at any given point in time. The top is a variable subject to change.

Google plus (Google+) maynot necessary mean a take-on on Facebook, rather a collaborative platform embracing all the social networks. It's the trump card for a true social web experience, incorporating all social networking platforms to create a social circle. That has been what Google advocates and now coming to reality.

I'm loving Google by the minute. Expecting more great innovations from them.

Google has already ensured the failure of their Google+ project because of one very vital flaw - branding. Perception is everything, and the branding 'experts' at Googleplex don't seem to get that.

Google is perceived as a search-engine and they cannot possibly change that. FaceBook is a social-network and you can't change that too. Google+ will fail for the same reasons Facebook Mail will fail - both line extended products in fortified teritories. At the most, they'll only achieve lukewarm results.

The Ultimate Price.

Google's project might sound reasonable, but it actually sounds as reasonable as launching an "Indomie Spagheti", or a "Coca-Cola Beer" or a "Milo Milk". In the short term, they might seem to make a little progress with the new line extensions, however, it's the Google brand that will pay the ultimate price. Look at what is happening to Yahoo (Google is a search-engine, Facebook is a social network what is Yahoo? - news, email, autos, health, blablabla?). Google is trying to line-extend themselves to death.

Facebook is a stingy social network, they earn so much yet don't share their revenue with users and the internet community.

In south Africa pple don't even use facebook, they use MXIT more. In USA they use more of Twitter, in China they have about 4 social network they use more than facebook.

Google is supa innovative and they r on top of their game. Gmail is one of the best email clients, gtalk- very convinient for chat. We have so many serch engines; yahoo, bing n co but google remains the no 1 search engine.
Google android revolutionalised the smartphone industry n r giving apple a run for der money in terms of mobile OS.
Google chrome browser- da bomb
Google earth- luv luv luv
Google chrome OS for computers seriously making waves.
And so many odas. They r on top of their game n r very innovative. They commit to their products n dats y they r on top of the internet biz. Its not a monopoly but then most pple gravitate towards google products becos they hav built a reputable brand which has remained relevant ova time.
Google + wil sure be a huge success. Pple r all ready wary of facebook cos if the security lapses n privacy issues. I hav read the reviews n cant wait to switch to google+. facebook is so loosing membership by the day, twitter took up a chunk; google+ is d future.
