*The Remodeling of the DMGS round about and Re-dedication of the statue of Rt Hon. Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe(Zik of Africa)*

In keeping with His Excellency's resolve to accelerate Urban infrastructure upgrade and upkeep the beautification of Urban spaces. The Executive Governor of Anambra State ordered the remodeling of the DMGS/ZIK's Statue Roundabout to 21st century standards.

The Project is spearheaded by the then Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Arc Michael M. Okonkwo.


Hon. Arc Michael M. Okonkwo following His Excellency's directive to remodel the DMGS/ZIK's roundabout, He reconstruct the existing roundabout to meet modern standard in aesthetics and functionality.

Hon. Arc Michael M. Okonkwo made the architectural design of the roundabout to suit the cultural references of Onitsha Tradition and Custom.

-He reconstruct the base of Zik's statue and raise the platform to an elevation befitting the legend of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe- Zik of Africa.

-He introduced an iconic monument that maintains the grandeur and iconic stature of Zik's place in the state, Nation and Continent as well as represent an easily recognizable cultural element of the Onitsha People, The reason for the Bead and Elephant Tusk, and altogether make the roundabout into a pleasing garden/Open space that adds great value to the environment.
