Joining or not joining NATO is not really as important as Crimea and Donbas issues at the moment. NATO in quotes operates an open door policy, but they have conditions for joining which France and Germany have made it clear Ukraine doesn't meet and, therefore, opposed thier membership. That is why it came as a shock when Russia invaded Ukraine while talks were still ongoing. It was termed peacekeeping but we all know it was anything but peacekeeping. I've always maintained that NATO membership was just an excuse.

.no difference... In 2019, ukraine started moves to join NATO but was told it won't be possible because ukraine does not meet the requirements...the reason was that ukraine would only become a liability to NATO since ukraine has little or nothing

If there was any good time to admit Ukraine into NATO it'd have been now since they were told they could join. But when Russia invaded them, instead of NATO to fast track their admission into NATO they turn around and started to make promises and nothing about NATO admission. Its such a wicked world
