That Kumasi is a slaughter place. Ghana beat Egypt by 6-1 and people suspected juju power at work. Ghanaian are jubilating already that Eagles will eat 8-0 in that stadium. Eagles had to do extra work to beat them in that stadium. The match is coming up in a week time and yet to announce the names of the players that will play the match. May be they are taking the players to a shrine before announcing the names to the public. I read it somewhere that the under they won in Egypt were due to juju. Their babalawo confessed after several years

The upcoming all-important first leg of the 2022 World Cup qualifier between Ghana's Black Stars and Nigeria's Super Eagles has taken another twist with reports on Wednesday indicating that the first leg, scheduled for the Cape Coast Stadium on March 25, has been moved to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

According to various reports out of Ghana and quoting Saddick Adams from his verified Twitter page; "JUST IN: Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi to host Ghana v Nigeria #WCQ2022. I'm told FIFA has already booked hotels in Kumasi for its match assessors and monitors in Kumasi."

The venue of the first leg has been a topic for discussion since the venue was announced and Ghana celebrated its 65th Anniversary on March 6 at the Cape Coast Stadium. As of the time of this report, PREMIUM TIMES was yet to sight any official notification of this venue shift.

Efforts to get any sort of confirmation from some officials of the Nigeria Football Federation proved unsuccessful though messages were sent and replies are still being expected.

The second leg is scheduled for the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on March 29. The winner of the two-legged affair punches their ticket for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to commence in Qatar in November 2022.

You’ll leave Kumasi with bucket of goals, Ghanaians taunt Eagles

Ghana fans are confident the Black Stars will emerge victorious when they battle Nigeria in the first leg of their Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi on March 25.

The Confederation of African Football on Wednesday granted a one-match license for the stadium to host the match after the Cape Coast Stadium was deemed unfit to host the qualifier.

Baba Yara Stadium is the Black Stars fortress, where the goals rain down on opponents in torrents and Ghanaians hold fond memories of the stadium, which was the venue in 2013 when they thrashed Egypt 6-1 on their way to qualifying 7-3 on aggregate for the 2014 World Cup in 2014.

The result was Ghana’s highest win against Egypt and their second highest in the World Cup qualifying campaign after defeating Lesotho 7-0 in June 2012 in Kumasi.

It was at the same ground, that local giants Asante Kotoko mauled Egyptian club Zamalek 5-1 in a continental club match.

Ghanaian fans taunted the Super Eagles ahead of the mouth-watering clash, saying they would join the list of teams who lost by high margins in Kumasi.One of the Ghanaian fans Jesse Gyabaah said the Eagles fate won’t be different from Egypt’s nine years ago. “Seirra Leone went to Nigeria and scored lots of goals, so you think you can come score Ghana at Baba Yara? Ask Egypt how they collected 6-1 at the same venue and come prepared with a basket, you guys will collect an avalanche of goals back to Abuja.”“Ask Egypt the last time they came to Kumasi what happened. We will spell NIGERIA or NAIJA. Your best result would be 3-0,” boasted Emmanuel Garbrah on Twitter. Mr Bismark, who also wrote on Twitter, believes the double-header qualifier would be decided from the outcome of the first leg in Ghana. “You’re coming to collect, it’s as simple as that. The game will be finished in Ghana.”@Ballon_88 wrote, “Nigerians should ask Egypt what we did to them here (Kumasi). Even if the FIFPRO 11 squad should come here, we’ll score as much as we want.”

“The last time a World Cup play-off game was held at the Baba Yara Stadium, it ended 6-1 in favour of Ghana. Expect the same treatment,” added @micky_jnr.

6 things you didn’t know about Baba Yara Stadium

1. The stadium was built by the United African Company in 1957, with its stands were first constructed in 1971

2.It was originally known as Kumasi Sports Stadium but renamed after Kumasi-born footballer Baba Yara in 2004

3. It’s a 40,528-capacity arena and home to local giants Asante Kotoko

4.The stadium hosted matches at the 1978, 2000 and 2008 AFCON

5. Ghana’s U-23 team beat Nigeria 2-0 at the stadium to advance to the 2011 African Games on the away goal rule after aggregate score stood at 3-3

6.. The latest renovation works at the stadium were delayed by the pandemic but ended last year

The Black Stars of Ghana will open camp on March 21 at the Cape Coast Stadium ahead of the FIFA 2022 World Cup Play-Off.

According to GHANAsoccernet, the players are expected to start arriving on March 20 while the camp will officially open on March 21.

Although Coach Atto Addo has submitted the squad list to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) the federation is yet to make it public.

The squad is expected to be dominated by players that featured at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon while some debutants who are active in their clubs will be part of the team.

GHANAsoccernet confirmed that all the players listed by Coach Addo have received their invitation for the two-legged encounters and they are expected to start arriving on Sunday March 20.

Meanwhile, words are rife that there may be a last-minute change of venue for the March 25 first leg of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup Play-Off involving Nigeria and Ghana.

This followed the petition sent to FIFA by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the poor state of the Cape Coast pitch which is supposed to host the first leg of the encounter on March 25.

With the FIFA inspection team expected to visit the stadium this week, a report emanating from Ghana confirmed the world football ruling body may have given the Ghana Football Association (GFA) the option of hosting the first leg in Benin Republic or Morocco.

The report of the FIFA inspection team will determine the final decision on the venue of the first leg of the clash on March 25.

Eagles to lodge at 3-Star Noda Hotel in Kumasi

The Super Eagles will stay at the 3-Star Noda Hotel in Kumasi when they play Ghana in their first leg final qualifier for the 2022 World Cup.

The Eagles depart Abuja on Wednesday March 23 for the crucial clash in Kumasi, scheduled for Friday March 25. The reverse fixture holds in Abuja four days later.

Aisha Falode, Executive Committee member, Nigeria Football Federation, who led the federation’s inspection team to Kumasi on Friday, said Ghana Football Association officials recommended the hotel after other major hotels in the city were fully booked.

Falode told PUNCH Sports Extra, “The Kumasi venue was a last minute decision after the Cape Coast Stadium was not approved by CAF to host the game.

“There were so many government and corporate activities already lined up during the week of the match in Kumasi. I’m told the president of the country (Ghana) is also hosting some kind of political events there. So, all the hotels are booked and filled.”

On if the Noda Hotel was befitting of the Eagles, Falode added, “It’s not the kind of hotel you expect the Eagles are used to, but it’s also a hotel you can’t say isn’t befitting of the Eagles. The hotel won’t be as important as the pitch where they’ll play.”

The three-time African champions battle perennial rivals Black Stars at the dreaded Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, just nine kilometres from Noda Hotel.

Our findings showed that the hotel has multilingual staff and boasts 79 air-conditioned guestrooms, which are all fitted with flat-screen TVs with satellite channels. The hotel also features free WiFi throughout the property.

It also offers an outdoor pool and fitness centre/gym, an on-site restaurant with free continental breakfast, a bar/lounge and free private parking space.

Nigeria Vs Ghana: Eagles Camp Opens March 21

Super Eagles players are expected to resume camp in Abuja on March 21, ahead of their Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying play-offs against Ghana on March 25 and 29.

The opening leg, which was earlier scheduled to hold on March 24 in Cape Coast, will now be played March 25, while the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja will host the second leg.

FIFA fixed March 21 to 29 for the international break, and with the Eagles billed to face the Black Stars in the first leg of their World Cup qualifying playoffs on March 25, players who have been called up will arrive at the camp in their numbers on Monday, March 21.

Nantes forward, Moses Simon, will be one of the earliest in camp as he is expected to arrive on the opening day after Nantes play Lille on March 19. Al Hilal striker, Odion Ighalo, is expected to arrive early after featuring for his side against Al-Ahli Saudi March 18.

England-based players Frank Onyeka, Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ademola Lookman, who recently switched allegiance to Nigeria, will also arrive early as Leicester City play Brentford on March 19, while the Watford contingent – William Troost-Ekong, Emmanuel Dennis and Oghenekaro Etebo, as well as Everton’s Alex Iwobi, are expected in on March 22, as the Hornets and Toffees clash March 20.

Italian contingent Victor Osimhen and Ola Aina will be expected to come in from March 22 as Napoli clash with Unidese March 20, while Torino are away to Genoa .

Its few days to the game and GFA still playing hide and seek with there list

Meanwhile

Ghanaian informant and a girlfriend who is close to the Ghana football authorities has leaked some of the players on the list that are to feature for Ghana in the Kumasi/Abuja playoff games gainst Nigeria. Please don’t ask me how she got hold of it. I hope coaches Eguavoen/Amunike and Salisu Yusuf are made aware of this.

The main players on the secret list for Ghana include:

Mohammad Kudus (an attacking midfielder with Ajax Amsterdam);
Daniel Kofi-Kyereh of St.Pauli (an attacking midfielder/striker in the current league leaders in Bundesliga 2 in Germany;
Thomas Partey, midfielder of Arsenal and captain of the team;
Felix Afena-Gyan of AS Roma in Italy (attacker/forward);
Jeffrey Schlupp (midfielder/forward with Crystal Palace in London).

These are the main players for the current Ghana team on the leaked list. Injury concerns seem to prevent the following from featuring in the games for Ghana as follows:
Jordan Ayew of Crystal Palace(battling covid);
Abdul Baba Rahman (left back defender with Reading in England who is battling fitness /thigh injury concerns and is doubtful for both games); Kamaldeen Sulemana, winger with Rennes in France who has a stress fracture injury and is also doubtful for the matches);

new invitee
(Aintoine Semenyo of Bristol City who is currently also injured) and
Abedi Ayew (the captain and probably most experienced player in the team who has a red card suspension from the playoffs).

Please pass on this list to Eguavoen/Amunike /Salisu Yusuf coaching crew). Thanks
