Eguavoen Satisfied With Eagles’ Response, Assures Team Is Ready For Ghana Clashes

Ahead of Friday’s Ghana-Nigeria 2022 World Cup playoffs first leg match in Kumasi, Super Eagles coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has expressed satisfaction with the players’ response in camp and training session, and assures that the team is ready to go and do the nation proud, Completesports.com reports.

Eguavoen while speaking after the Super Eagles’ first training session in Abuja on Tuesday ahead of their Kumasi trip, says that the injury concerns in the squad have been adequately taken care of. He explains that Maduka Okoye who fell ill might still join the team, while Innocent Bonke has replaced injured Wilfred Ndidi.

“I am very satisfied, you can see that the boys are ready to go. The good thing is that they are in season, they are in form and their confidence is very high. No injury worries and I am very satisfied with what we saw in our first training session, one hour, 15 minutes,” Eguavoen said.

“I got a message from Maduka Okoye, that he is going to come but we have a backup in John Noble who is is going join us. If Maduka recovers and joins us there is no problem.but we have Noble as a backup.

“Hopefully, we’ll have two more training sessions before the game, anything more than that will be suicidal. It is more of tactical talks than physicality now. We are ready to go,” Eguavoen concluded.

The Super Eagles will host the Black Stars in the reverse fixture at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja on Tuesday, March 29 2022. The winner over the two legs will represent Africa, alongside four other qualified nations, at Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Super Eagles Fly To Kumasi Aboard Air Peace

Players and officials of the Super Eagles departed Abuja for Kumasi aboard Air Peace on Thursday morning, ahead of Friday’s 2022 World Cup qualifying playoffs with Black Stars of Ghana.

In a video from NFF TV, the players and officials were seen getting set to board their Air Peace flight from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

On getting to Ghana, the team will hold a training session inside the Babayara stadium in Kumasi for the first leg tie.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars coach Otto Addo will hold a press conference later today.

The Eagles will be looking for a first win against Ghana since the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The last time both teams met in a World Cup qualifier was during the race for the 2002 edition in Korea and Japan.

Grouped alongside Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Sudan, the Super Eagles eventually picked the sole ticket after thrashing Ghana 3-0 in the last group game in Port Harcourt.

For the Black Stars, they will hope to make a return to the World Cup after missing the 2018 edition in Russia.

For the Eagles, they will be targeting a seventh appearance since making their debut in 1994.

2022 World Cup playoff: Black Stars arrive in Kumasi ahead of blockbuster clash against Nigeria

The Black Stars team has arrived in Kumasi ahead of their crucial World Cup playoff against Nigeria.

The team led by coach Otto Addo and his technical team touched down in the Ashanti Regional capital on Tuesday afternoon, and will head straight to their hotel before first training later today.

The team will also train on Wednesday and Thursday before the first leg on Friday at the Baba Yara Sports stadium.

Two key players Mohammed Kudus and goalkeeper Richard Ofori who missed the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon two months ago are back in the squad for the two-legged matches to be played in Kumasi and Abuja over the next one week.

Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew was named the squad despite being hit with Covid while playing for his English side.

The two key players return after missing the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon earlier this year due to injuries.

The 27 players invited by coach Otto Addo includes three debutants namely Odoi and Owusu who had been revealed by Ghanasoccernet.com as players to be handed their maiden call-ups.

Both players who play in Belgium were not born in Ghana but have Ghanaian roots through their fathers.

Odoi, a former Fulham defender has earned his first invitation, at age of 33 after playing for youth teams of Belgium and making one appearance for the senior side.

French-born Owusu is 24 and hasn’t tasted international football before. He could make his international debut against the Super Eagles.

The first debutant is AS Roma sensation Afena-Gyan, the youngster who has previously turned down invitations to join the Black Stars, who will be chasing his first appearance for the Black Stars.

The fourth debutant is Heart of Oak defender Dennis Korsah who is enjoying an impressive in the Ghana Premier League.

Otto Addo called up four goalkeepers, nine defenders, six midfielders, four wingers and four forwards.

Crystal Palace man Jordan Ayew has been included despite multiple reports claiming he has tested positive for coronavirus and is a major doubt for the tie.

Also in the squad is Arsenal star Thomas Partey who will captain the team in the absence of the suspended Andre Ayew.

Daniel-Kofi Kyereh who has scored six goals in his last seven games for German side St Pauli has been added by Addo.

Celta Vigo defender Joseph Aidoo has been rewarded with a call-up because of his recent impressive performances in the Spanish top-flight.

Columbus Crew attacker Yaw Yeboah has been recalled after he shockingly missed the Affcon in Cameroon.

France-based winger Kamaldeen Sulemana is injured and has not been included.

Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced that 20,000 tickets have been sold on the novel e-ticket platform introduced by the government for the 2022 World Cup playoff between the Black Stars and the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Ghana host Nigeria in the first leg of the 2022 World Cup playoff at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on March 25,2022.

The second leg encounter comes off at the Moshood Abiola Sports Stadium in Abuja on March 29,2022.

In a statement released by the Sports Ministry the 40,000 seater capacity stadium has been filled by 50 per cent.

“With less than 48 hours to kick-off for the much-awaited encounter between the Black Stars and the Super Eagles of Nigeria, we are happy to announce that our novel e-ticket sales, initiated by the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has so far registered nearly 20,000 tickets which is half the capacity of the Baba Yara Stadium.

Considering that this is the first time we are using this technology, we are quite impressed by the remarkable patronage and success of the initiative.

We thank the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for initiating this drive and pushing all stakeholders to make it possible for this crucial World Cup playoff with Nigeria.

Indeed, we are getting into a new era where the scramble for tickets at stadium gates will be a thing of the past.

It is Digi-time and it is time for convenience. Thank you, Mr. Vice President and all our partners.

Former Ghana international, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has exposed the Black Stars’ major strength ahead of their 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff against the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Friday.

Ghana and Nigeria will clash at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, on Friday night.

The Super Eagles will then host the Black Stars in the return leg in Abuja, on Tuesday.

However, Badu, who was part of Ghana’s squad to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, said that the Black Stars’ major strength is their midfield, adding that the likes of Thomas Partey and Joseph Paintsil make them very strong.
