Udele1, nobody will see you here. Clown.

If this was a Fulani man shipping something from Onitsha to North, can it be seized like this knowing fully well it will perish?

How can customs arrest someone for patronising local content? And demand fro bribe?

Mpama.

You should be going there with a lawyer not crying like a peasant. Nigerians, when you know your rights, fight for heaven's sake. Fight back, fight hard, fight rough

What are you saying Mr man? Go with a lawyer? Do these people respect your law? Do they respect your lawyer? Do they obey the law? Or haven't u watch how they maltreated and arrest a lawyer that went with his client to make recovery of his goods seized by the custom officers? Are u even in Nigeria?

Please if you don't know what to say just shut ur mouth please. In Nigeria whether u are right or not those men in uniform don't care. They are heartless human beings.

Please always research any business opportunity very well next time. Donkey is part of endangered species, with a ban in dealing with it's carcass or meat. If had helped to retweet your tweet, but try to resolve the matter as soon as possible, because your are on the wrong side of the law.
I was thinking that Donkey is part of the endangered species until I saw what the OP posted in the update of the issue

I doubt what you are saying, how could National Environmental Safety Enforcement Regulatory Agency be called by the Nigerian Customs to inspect if the goods are prohibited, after which they certified that those donkeys are not prohibited, and are fit for consumption.
I guest you skipped the document attached or you are trying to justify that Ugly act.
If one religion forbids it, which I know thats what you referred to as FG, then what about the other religion that didn't forbid it? Ok, what's the difference between Donkey and Cows, are they not all livestock?
So if a vegetarian comes into power, he will start banning all killing of animals because it violates his belief. SMH

You guys are just getting overly emotional. The FG along with most countries of the world are banning or discouraging the killing and trading of donkeys. I know the law on the ban Killing and trading of donkeys had passed through first and second reading, but I am not sure it had been made law yet.

Bill to prohibit killing, export of donkey passes second reading
A bill to prohibit the killing and exportation of donkeys or its carcasses out of Nigeria on Tuesday passed a second reading at the House of Representatives.

The bill sponsored by Garba Muhammed (APC-Kaduna), seeks to address the threat of donkeys going into extinction, and to preserve its aesthetic, ecological, historical, recreational and scientific values to the nation.

Mr Muhammed said it was necessary that donkeys were preserved for use particularly foe transportation, among other uses.

According to him, the donkey is a very useful means of transportation, particularly in the rural communities of the country.

“Recently, the donkey population has severely reduced. The reason ascribed to this development, like in many countries of West African sub-region, is large scale exports to China.

“In China, where the donkey population has also nosedived, the demand for donkeys is extremely high because gelatine made from donkey skin is highly priced as a nutritional tonic which nourishes the blood and boosts the immune system.

Donkeys that used to be a common feature in nigeria and West Africa is becoming an endangered species. That's how we killed of elephants from West Africa due to Ivory trade.

Even though I sympathize with the guy whose goods were seized by customs. I am somehow appalled that a whole truckload of donkeys (a very non aggressive animal that had helped man to carry load for centuries)were being slaughtered in such numbers for profit.

The guy did not do his due diligence before embarking on the business on such a scale. Forget the papers he obtained. In Nigeria you could get any paper you want for the right amount. The ministry guys are only after bribe.

People had been arrested for trading just a couple of donkeys, and this guy was caught with a truckload. I am sure he was not aware that trading in donkeys in Nigeria is controversial, else he would not have done strong head and would have negotiated with the custom officers (bribe).

I really doubt the guy can win this. The government officials that gave him the papers would deny the papers were genuine when they get to court, as the whole thing looks bad. If NYSC could deny Kemi Adeosun's discharge certificate, what is a few ministry papers.

They are not listed as endangered yet, but their numbers are getting critically low and most countries have banned trading in donkeys.

On 11th March 2022, We bought Smoked Donkey Meat at Kebbi Livestock Market and loaded it after getting all the necessary clearance from the Ministry of Animal Health Kebbi state.

On getting to Kangiwa, we were intercepted by the men of Nigerian Customs Service, they asked us what was inside the Truck, we told them that it was smoked donkey meat, one of them said they needed to see the waybill, we showed it to them, they insisted that we go to their office, we followed them.

On getting there they arrested my Second partner and put him inside the Cell, he has some health challenges that he is managing, they left him inside there from Saturday 12th March Till today Thursday 17th March, no medication and his health is deteriorating.
They presented a document that we are supposed to Pay Eleven Million Naira (11,000,000) as Duty for the goods
They eventually invited the men of National Environmental standards and regulations Enforcement Agency to inspect the goods and which they did and Certified that the goods are fit for human consumption and hence they should be released to us

Fellow good Nigerians, as am writing this, today 20th makes it 10days since those perishable items were seized and detained in their custody, yet they refused to release them.

Am using this medium to call on the Comptroller General Customs, Col. Hamid Ali to intervene so that the damages done to those goods will be ameliorated as this is the investment of hard working Nigerians.
