Hunger and starvation takes over the country gradually.

Nigeria ranks way below South Africa, Ghana, and Kenya on Global Food Security index 2021

According to the report, South Africa (with 63.1 points) scored better than Ghana (60.0 points). Kenya (47.6), Uganda (41.5), and Nigeria (32.5) in the food affordability category.
In the case of food availability, quality and safety, and protecting natural resources for food production, South Africa scored better than Ghana, Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria on the GFS Index 2021.
The report’s findings also showed that global food security has decreased for the second year in a row after seven years of progress towards the Sustainable Development Goal of achieving zero hunger by 2030.

Nigeria is ranked at 97th position on the Global Food Security (GFS) Index 2021 of 113 countries, but the country lags behind its neighbours South Africa, Ghana, Kenya and Uganda in the index.

According to the global report released by Economist Impact and Corteva Agriscience, South Africa (70th), Ghana (82nd), Kenya (90th), and Uganda (95th) ranked higher than Nigeria (97th) on the GFS Index 2021.

Ireland (1st), Australia (2nd), the UK (3rd), Finland (4th), Switzerland (5th), the Netherlands (6th), Canada (7th), Japan (8th), France (9th) and the US (9th) shared the top 10 ranks with the overall GFS score in the range of 77.8 and 80 points on the index.

The GFS index published by London-based Economist Impact and sponsored by Corteva Agriscience measures the underlying drivers of food security in 113 countries, based on affordability, availability, quality and safety, and natural resources and resilience.

The affordability sub-index includes a change in average food costs, proportion of a population in poverty and agricultural import tariffs. At the same time, the availability sub-index consists of the sufficiency of supply, agricultural infrastructure, volatility in agricultural production, political and social barriers to food and food loss.

According to the report, South Africa (with 63.1 points) scored better than Ghana (60.0 points). Kenya (47.6), Uganda (41.5), and Nigeria (32.5) in the food affordability category.

In the case of food availability, quality and safety, and protecting natural resources for food production, South Africa scored better than Ghana, Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria on the GFS Index 2021, the report added.

"The GFSI looks beyond hunger to identify the underlying factors affecting food insecurity around the world," said Tim Glenn, Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer, Corteva Agriscience.

The findings of the GFS Index 2021 also showed that global food security has decreased for the second year in a row after seven years of progress towards the Sustainable Development Goal of achieving zero hunger by 2030.

According to Pratima Singh, Head of the Global Food Security Index at Economist Impact, "The index shows that, while countries have made significant strides toward addressing food insecurity in the past ten years, food systems remain vulnerable to economic, climatic, and geopolitical shocks. Action is imperative at all levels--local, national, and global--to end hunger and malnourishment and ensure food security for all."

The report further added that in order to meet the present and emerging future challenges, investments in food security must be sustained from innovation in climate-resilient crop yields to invest in programs to assist the most vulnerable.

Really?

But according to congo jews, Nigeria is ranked the least in food security both globally and regionally. angry

Anyway, thumb up to the core North and middle belt for this feat.

Still wondering what some barren villages contribute to the economy of this country other than crime. angry

Nigeria has the best arable land in Africa. Kenya only 10% of the land is arable, South Africa less than 20% of the land is arable. But we are right number 8 in the Africa. In another 5 years Somalia will be producing more food than Nigeria this is nothing to write home about. Do not forget this list is only for black African countries like Egypt which are part of the Arab League including Tunisia and some North African countries and not in the list as African countries

The simple question is: Is Nigeria not the least in food security globally again?

What is your zone contributing to this food security even at the country's present position?

All days and night, you insult the North for not contributing anything. The present position of the country for which you are typing useless analysis, is it your effort?

Wow! Means the rest of Africa is in severe hunger.

Later when you post hungry looking African kids on Facebook, those mumu afrocentrists will be arguing that Africa is not like that.
The truth is bitter.

The most funny thing about this is that.

Nigeria is one of the countries with enough arable lands for farming, yet, people are starving in Nigeria, and foodstuffs is extremely expensive.

None of the countries in the top 10 is suffering food crisis like Nigeria.

The price of rice and beef is extremely expensive in Nigeria than the rest of the countries on the list below.

The kin thing wey dey happen for this country go make you extremely shock shocked

Illiteracy is your problem. The report ranked Nigeria 97th out of 113 countries globally yet this one is here saying rubbish. The mental state of those campaigning for tinubu is very poor.

This olodo is probably suffering and can't afford 3 square meals daily yet he can't even grow a brain.

Rubbish!!

Do you think are rice or fertilizer can enter America America is a country with standard who will buy rice which is full of stones and send. To make matters worse you even find the rat feces and cockroach eggs inside the local rice. Go and try taking food stuff to America and see the amount of laboratory test they will do on it

Shinedu, be proud of your tribe.

Btw, I thought you are in planet Mercury, not Brazil.

The question you have not yet answered is: tell us what your zone contribute to food security In particular and the economy of Nigeria in general.

For instance, the North is known for agriculture while the west leads in industrialisation and infotech.

Now, tell us what you contribute and stop typing rubbish. angry

who did this to you? Your bigotry and hatred for a particular region has disposed to sense of reasoning walai. Nigeria the so-called gaint of Africa Rankin 8th position below sA, Kenya etc is a shame even though you a don't have one. Imagine 32percent or so compare to SA with 60plus. See ordinary Kenya and Ghana have left your league and you displaying your usual rant over a region that didn't birth you.
