WARRI – NO fewer than 50 placard- carrying Ijaw youths from Egbema and Gbaramatu kingdoms in Warri North and Warri South West Local Government Areas of Delta State, carried out a peaceful protest in Warri, yesterday, over the formula adopted by the Chevron Nigeria Limited, in inviting graduates from its host-communities for employment aptitude test.

The protesting youths, led by Mr Innocent Ojusin, told Vanguard, “we are here to stop the aptitude test. It is a ploy by Chevron to continue to oppress us; after the examination, they will say that our people did not pass and cannot be employed.

We sent lists of 150 production operation technician candidates to Chevron after thoroughly screening them, to our dismay, only 23 were shortlisted and 22 out of the 23 were chosen as technical assistants, a lesser positioncompared to their certificate.”

“Chevron is treating us as second class citizens despite our being the highest oil producing area. We sent protest letters to them but they failed to respond,” he added.
