It's no longer news that the two dominant political parties in Nigeria, APC and PDP, had their national congresses this year, where they "chose" their two national chairmen and scores of other party executives.
Instead of these two parties to conduct elections, they instead came together to present what they called consensus candidate, where other aspirants were forced to step down for "anointed candidates".

Now, let's see how these engenders corruption: whether it's a party position or a governorship, presidential or senatorial position, the anointed candidate will be told to compensate the others who stepped down for him when he gets to the office, through huge direct financial gifts and corrupt contracts once or throughout the duration of the position, depending on the agreement.

Democracy is dead, when godfathers can sit down and handpick who to run for elective positions, in the name of consensus candidates.

Maybe in the future, other parties' candidates could decide to step down for a particular party's gov. or pres. candidate(a) and INEC would not conduct an election that year grin.

It doesn't encourage any massive corruption cos nobody is forced and mind you anybody that can drop his ambition for a just cause is desperate.

Mind you it's the party that refunds, corruption is our way of life in Nigeria and has nothing to do with consensus

Consensus is rubbish. When will talk about democracy the people comes in first, is all abt the people, so is suppose to be the peoples mandate not someone picking for the people, that's to say the people don't hv choice
