BORNO State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum, has said while welcoming surrendered terrorists, the government will not disregard the risks associated with the programme.

He said there was the need for sustaining stringent security profiling and other disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration procedures that can ensure the overall safety of the programme.

The governor described the mass surrender of over 35,000 fighters and commanders of Boko Haram and Islamic State in West Africa Province as divine intervention achieved through endless prayers of people from all around the world.

Zulum made his position known in his Easter message, saying the mass surrender of over 35,000 fighters and commanders was certainly one of Allah’s many miracles towards healing Borno State and the rest of the North-East region.

He stated, “This mass surrender is the product of the endless prayers of citizens across Borno State, the North-East region, Nigeria and indeed the world who have been offering, seeking God’s intervention to heal Borno State. It is the product of immense sacrifices by armed forces and volunteers. It is the product of repeated calls by political leaders, clergy, elders and traditional rulers asking insurgents to lay down their arms and embrace peace.

“We must therefore be optimistic in welcoming the likely benefits of disarming, demobilising, rehabilitating and reintegrating the mass-surrendered insurgents.

“However, we must welcome them without disregarding the risks associated with the programme, hence the need for sustaining stringent security profiling and other disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration procedures that can ensure the overall safety of the programme.

“I, therefore, urge all citizens to fervently pray for the success of our DDR for the mass surrender of those who seek peace and for the success of our armed forces and volunteers in the front line against those who insist on violence.

He added that in over 12 years of the battles with insurgents Borno State, for the first time, had a golden window of ending insurgency.

Rubbish
You are aware you are using our hard earned money to feed, house those who have killed innocent citizens

You are aware you are housing killers in a good accommodation while their victims are in IDP camps

You are aware you are encouraging people that small crime doesn't pay rather big crimes will land them a better life

If they are pardoned, then nobody should be in any prison in Nigeria.
Amadioha and ogun combo finish all if u there

Sometimes I wish abacha reigned a little longer or a gaddafi will emanate from this country. Although Wike's candidacy is somehow but that man will blow terrorism into oblivion

The terrorists termed repentant terrorists are those a voluntary surrendered their arms.. Do you expect the government to kill or put them in prison... Won't that stop others from dropping their weapons?

If you heard the Government slaughters Terrorists who dropped their weapons you'll still complain...

The North is aware of these risks but still goes ahead to rehabilitate them, reintegrate them into the society and credits there bank accounts. .so what are you saying?

In Amnesty, the government don't prosecute people who lay down their arms.

The Niger Delta militants who were granted amnesty killed lots of military men and destroyed government properties but during the amnesty program, they were taken care of and sent to school abroad. FG gave them a budget of $500,000,000 yearly..

You didn't answer my question?
Why Amnesty? Is it because government believes they have a reason for their killings or because government cannot clear them out?
So every killer who commercialised their activities should be granted amnesty?

Mentioning Niger Delta militants is a big insult to Niger Deltans. Militants avoided casualties unless in the battle line. The focused on government properties because they have a message to pass

Now what exactly are they fighting for that should make the government consider amnesty

There is nothing like repentant terrorist, know this and know peace.

And trying to de-radicalize the so-called repentant terrorists is an ill-will that blows nothing good. The government is taking care of criminals and abandoned their victims.

Have you watched the beast of no nation?
What do you think should happen if a boy like Agu surrenders to the government?

Also read rules of surrender.
