DeepSight:The story was challenged at the time of the writing by his contemporaries long before Nigeria was created. That is a fact so You insisting on one version over another has to have some basis. My point is you are entitled to believe what you like but be honest about it . You DO NOT KNOW. You choose to believe . There are many stories written in the bible , Quran and other places? All stories are questionable His story was questionable for many reasons. There is no Eboe region of the Benin kingdom he remembered he was Eboe but could not name his village or clan or even his OWN EBOE name? There is research suggesting he was actually born in South Carolina. So choosing one version as true and the other as false has to have some basis Even in this Nigeria stores that happen in our lifetime are debated and debatable. People argue about what caused Biafra war or what happened under Goodluck Jonathan not to talk of what happened hundreds of years ago and WAS QUESTIONED even then IS IT POSSIBLE TO REMEMBER YOU ARE EBOE BUT NOT YOUR EBOE NAME |

BloomingDale:Besides which border is that? I'm interested to know. Most black are the once who look down on themselves and allow one white folk to do to them as they wish in the name of searching for greener pasture. I'll rather die with my pride than being looked down upon by a nonentity |

aribisala0:So long as you leave open the possibility, I have no issue with what you are saying. My former friend who I mentioned tried to shut out the possibility altogether. Also, the fact that his memory was poor doesn't necessarily invalidate his account - for according to him, he was a little kid at the time he was taken. |

DeepSight:Yes it is possible My point is ultimately I do not know and it is unknowable I just wonder is it possible to forget his names . He did not provide any "Eboe names" for himself Also the talk of "EBOE part of Benin Kingdom" is not quite right is it? |

BloomingDale:Pure sentiment and hypocrisy. You utilize their technology and criticize the name of their biggest investment in Africa. For your information, you gave up your freedom the day you purchased that Android or Apple phone of yours. It becomes worse if you are one of those fond of registering on any social medium available. Who do you think created all those so called Apps you are fond of downloading? Someone has been involved and accessing your privacy and probably controlling your choices remotely since you created your first email address. |

BloomingDale:While your assertions may be correct, the truth is do we, especially Nigerians have a choice? Look at the height of corruption and inefficiency that has rendered our country one of the most difficult places to survive on earth. Don't you think that it is through indegenous innovation and problem-solving which the Chinese exemplifies, that we can really challenge all these? As it is now, Nigeria is a scavenger country even though it is an intellectually and resource-rich. We're still scavenging for aids, debt-reliefs while the most intellectual among us have become economic slaves in the countries that once dealt us Trans-Atlantic slavery. |

Madame, no one can demean you if you don't demean yourself. No be today we don dey read about Equiano or the Abolitionists. If they same people provide you with the cable and call it Lugard, you'll still see colonialism in it. Na una go dey blow grammar pass oyibo yet don't see it as inferiority complex. BloomingDale: |

aribisala0:I really wouldn't know.... I can only say with reference to the Ibo name issue that heaven knows what that kind of trauma can inflict on the mind of a child. With respect to the issue of an Ibo part of the Benin kingdom, who knows.... Benin was certainly expansive and I don't think it's inconceivable that they had expanded into land occupied by Ibos. I am not Igbo but it really irritated me that my once upon a time friend insisted Olaudah could not be Igbo especially because I knew his stance came from a belief that the Igbo race has no history of note. I despise all racist, ethnic and tribalist chauvinism. Your stance seems reasonable to me. |

DeepSight:Well it is dangerous to see genuine inquiry as racist. How could accepting or denying his Igboness be "racist" I do not get that, Why?? I find it strange that he remembers he is Eboe or Igbo but does not remember his own name or the name of any significant person from his family or clan or any Igbo words, Not one? It raises questions about "false memory" or confabulation but like I said I am only guessing Also I know that many Igbo groups as we know them today did not identify as Igbo" even as recently as 1914 or later e.g . Ngwas so I would be surprised that a small child from 200 years ago remembers he is "igbo" I would have expected a more local Identity based on clan |

Coincidentally,I am currently reading oludah book. The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano. Currently at chapter 2.but i admire Booker T. Washington's book: Up From Slavery more compared to olaudah's book.may be it's because Booker .T Washington is an educator and industrious. |
