Oyo State Governor, 'Seyi Makinde, on Saturday, declared that the death of the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, is a huge loss to the state, Nigeria and the Yoruba race.

The Chief Imam Of Oyo, Masud Ajokidero and his league of clerics, have arrived at the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo, following the death of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III.

Oba Adeyemi died on Friday. According to palace sources, he will be buried on Saturday today probably by 4pm, in line with Islamic tenets.

Rest on King. Alaafin was a hugely respected monarch in the Southwest and lived his life to the fullest. He belongs to the rarefied selection of kings all over the world who ruled for decades in great health, pomp and pageantry.. He's also an erudite Yorùbá historian and folklorist. An ardent follower of Sango and a committed Muslim. His emergence as Alaafin wasn't smooth sailing as he had running power struggle with one of his chiefs called Ashipa within his kingdom.

In rulership hierarchy in Nigeria, he's on the same pedestal as the Oòni of Ìfẹ, the Sultan of Sokoto and the Obi of Onitsha.. He will be thoroughly missed by his people and across the federation coz he was an era.

Imagine the Billionaire Oba who reigned for 51 years, married 13 wives, and enjoyed life to the fullest is the one wrapped with six yards of white cloth placed in a plank which is less than N30,000 in total. May his soul rest in peace and my condolences to his family and the entire citizens of Oyo.

My heartfelt condolences to Oyo state government and citizens. The state has really suffered some losses of their illustrious sons in 2 years. Bode Akindele, Richard Akinjide, Lekan Are, Ajimobi,Akala, Olubadan, Shoun and now Alaafin...These men were institutions in thier own right.
